Is there any point in upgrading to the latest firmware? I'm currently running 2 versions back. I skipped one because it had a few issues for some people on here. The only bug I've noticed in the version I'm running is when I start the car and engage reverse before the unit has finished booting up the screen flashes black and goes into like a reverse camera mode (I don't have a camera), it only happens for about 5 seconds though then returns to normal.

I'm running the same version and have yet to install an upgrade either. I also have the brief reverse camera screen when I engage reverse in the manner you describe. Unfortunately, I did install a reverse camera and this is the only time I see a brief glimpse of the reverse screen. I have yet to solve my reverse camera dilema.

I'll be interested in opinions on whether to upgrade. I believe from memory I have version M93...but I haven't checked the screen in a while and could be mistaken.

    Update: It is version M93

Yes you may be the unlucky few to have the BT noise issue. If a full soft reset + firmware flash does not help then it is the hardware itself. You will have to contact Audiosources, if you bought it from them, if you really want the issue fixed.

There hasn't been any significant feature upgrades from what I could tell in the last two firmware updates. That was part of the reason why I was in no hurry to distribute them, but a few people were asking about the new firmware in this thread, so I thought I'd just throw it out there and let people play with it themselves if they want to.

That black screen does happen when you put the car in reverse before the "Welcome to Volkswagen" loading screen shows up, and you do not have an RVC installed. Doesn't really cause any real problems as it disappears later either by itself after a few seconds or when you put the car out of reverse, and it will not do it again for the rest of the session that the unit stays on.

If I remember correctly you mentioned that your reverse light wire is actually getting no signal? So unless I'm mixing you up with someone else, you need to fix that issue first, as the relay will not detect anything and not power the camera as long as that's true. The fact that you experience this little glitch which occurs to people without RVCs shows your RVC is not being detected. Firmware updates cannot fix anything if power is not physically being fed to the camera...

I might be able to help.

Try connecting an automotive relay with 12v power and use the reverse light as the trigger.

This is what i had to do to get it to work. I was having "flash" of a screen showing camera view then nothing.

    GL!!

    DkN,

1- When i connect a flash drive, i get the welcome VW screen and this freezes everything else. Persistant pressing of menu brings it up
eventually but going to USB menu shows nothing in folders or anything else.
2- Also, i once was pressing lots of buttons in a bit of a tantrum and somehow brought up an ODB menu? Any idea if this is active?

    THANKS!!

No its not active. It requires a hardware extra.

Thanks. But this already has been done and has not helped in my situation. I have a relay installed, using the reverse light power line as the trigger. I am using my main power from a splice from the 12V accessory power outlet at the rear right. I may have lost power at the reverse light power line since it doesn't have any power at all when the reverse gear is engaged. During my initial wiring attempt when I directly connected the camera to the reverse power line it led to a bulb out warning light. At that point the reverse light and the camera were not working. When I switched to a relay it got rid of the warning about the right reverse light bulb being out but the bulb (and the power line) still have no power.

currently, I've taken a break from the project since it has been aggravating. However, if you have any further ideas I am open to trying anything.

I did post a schematic of my wiring set up a few pages back.

As DkN has already pointed out, your immediate need is to find out why your reverse line is dead and rectify it.

No power always equals no go.

A VCDS system scan might reveal where to look.
