do i connect both blue wires together?

think i bought the wrong one!

thanks but its not the rca's i'm worried about, theres a couple of blue trailing wires and one brown - wanted to know how to wire these up.

do the 2 blues go together? ive not wired the reverse cam up yet but does this go to the brown wire?

also if i scroll down on the main menu i get all the obd functions and a internet browser! does this mean ive already got the newest firmware?

thanks for the help so far.
Which antenna depends on what model car you have. Golf 5 and equivalent platforms use the separate double FAKRA connectors while newer platforms use a single twin connector. Also, I'm unsure how much difference those antennas you linked to would make - AFAIK you will need a diversity FAKRA antenna at at least double the price of the one you found, to make a real difference to the signal quality.

Don't just go around joining wires together. You'll need to be a bit more specific than just "a few blue wires and a brown one". If you are talking about one blue wire from the antenna cable, and one blue wire from the big quadlock cable, yes they are meant to be joined. The quadlock cable's blue wire is marked "ant" and provides power to the antenna.

The brown wire should be coming out of the joint USB / iPod adaptor and is marked "back conn". This is for the RVC, you may connect power directly to this without needing to tap the reverse light (this is a recent addition to the unit). However, if you do this you will need different firmware (specifically MCU) to make it work.

You do have the latest firmware, they provide the latest revision from the factory at the time of shipping.

Don't panic (as Corporal Jones would say). I did the same thing.

It all depends on what the vehicle wiring harness has. Worst case, you have an extra unit. It is a pity you can't get the shells and replace the shells you have. I notice that some are now selling them like this. You have the two cables with the connectors and then a twin shell and two individual shells. You use what you need.

    It is part of learning.

I would not recommend joining things. Just get the correct one if you have the wrong one.

i'm not using a rvc, just a normal reverse camera so i can wire it directly to the revser lamp? i don't need the back con connection?

The back conn is to save you time and effort, tapping the reverse light is usually the most difficult part of an RVC installation because most cars have the reverse light on the boot lid. Also on many VWs it's not enough to just tap the reverse light, you will need to use a relay switch. None of this will need to be done if you use the back conn wire, which can directly power the camera.
By the way I don't know what you think RVC stands for, but it just means reverse camera.

Also I think wai was talking about the FAKRA connectors not the power wire. If the power wire in your replacement antenna doesn't match the connector on the end of your blue wire, that's not a big deal and you can just join them whatever way you like as long as they make proper contact. If the FAKRA connectors are the wrong type though, you should probably avoid forcibly joining them because it could affect your signal.

    makes sense, thanks.

thought rvc meant the vw badge camera!

I think you're getting confused. See the item you posted earlier:

Dual / Double Fakra Antenna / Ae

The blue wire there is the power wire. It connects to the blue wire on the big quadlock cable (the one going into your car's wiring harness). If your replacement antenna has a terminal on the end of its blue wire that is not compatible with the terminal on your quadlock cable's blue wire, you can just cut off the terminals and crimp on any other terminal you want, like the bullet ones you found.

What wai was suggesting you do not join by yourself is the actual FAKRA connectors, which are the two teal connectors with the purple tab. These connectors may or may not match your car's FAKRA connectors depending on what car you have. See below:

Autoleads PC5-160 Car Audio Aerial Adaptor Lead for Audi A3 Phantom Fakra to Din | eBay

Something like that, with the two FAKRA connectors joined together as one, will not fit into two separate female FAKRA connectors. Similarly two separate male FAKRA connectors does not fit into a female joint dual FAKRA. If you got the wrong FAKRA antenna, it is possible to modify them as someone else on this forum has done, but I would advise against it.

I've been updating my notification post, there have been delays but it is confirmed to enter production at the end of the month, so I should have them by the beginning of April.
