These pieces of information are available in the CAN-Bus itself. That's why in Audis and I think now the Golf 7 oil temperature can be displayed in the MFD. The information available through the CAN-Bus is limited though and varies depending on the maker and generation of the car. Things like boost or more advanced information typically are only available through the engine bus or alternatively through the diagnostic bus with OBD2.

OBD2 is meant to be a standardised way for generic readers to be able to read information, but a lot of the important information are often still specific to a manufacturer, so that's what I mean by significant R&D because there's no way to do it except to do it from scratch by yourself, those who have found how to read the correct specific data for VW will be guarding the information closely. So even if you look at Torque on android, the information it shows is limited and whether it can show boost depends on the car, it claims to have it on cars that have MAF or MAP sensors but it does not work on my Golf 5 TDI. That's why I say even as an OBD module, it is likely not going to have things like boost or timing pull, it will never come close to replacing VCDS.

Hey there, I've been following this thread with interest for a while now. I've been swapping emails with Michael at audiosources, which is a bit painful (slow) because of the time difference.

Is there any difference in the ANS510 and ANS810 other than screen size? I've been leaning towards the 510 since it looks more "factory" but wonder if I would regret not getting the bigger screen. Anyone got an opinion?

Also, Michael suggested not getting the nav software from them. Is it relatively easy to get and install?

DkN, if I understand correctly, you offer support for people in the US for a small fee. Would it include the map software?

    Thanks.

There is no difference other than the screen size and the fact that ANS-510 uses standard SD slots as opposed to microSD. The firmware is identical and in fact for Bluetooth the ANS-810 still identifies itself as the ANS-510.

I provide support for technical issues and firmware updates but I cannot provide the map software.

Finally got round to updating the FW. It seems the USB side is now broken. If USB is the current input and you reboot the unit, it hangs on the Welcome screen. Pressing the menu button does nothing. I found that pressing the Equil button (ASP) brings up that screen. From there, I can press the Menu button which takes me to the USB screen, but doesn't play or recognise the drive. Interestingly, if I unplug the drive it gives a NO usb drive present message (or something like that). It plays the SD card fine and the radio.
Checking the fw version, it shows 20120405. I didn't check what it was prior to updating. The version I downloaded was the '405 one.
I reinstalled the fw, but it does the same thing.

    Thoughts?

How is it possible to read maf and throttle % without a cable running to the obd port?

Reading it directly from the CANbus. The ODBII port is an external interface to the bus. The head unit is connected to the CANbus in order to get speed info, communicate with the steering wheel controls, detect reverse select etc.

That's a bit difficult to say, if it was working before then it seems like it's the firmware. I am not certain what would happen if you flashed the wrong firmware for your hardware, but I was told it is very important to get it right. Having said that I'm fairly certain you should have the 20120405 BT. which firmware version did you flash? The one from my last email?

Yes, the one from your email. Can you send me the previous version?

I installed the ANS-510 in my GTI today, the unit looks great, I haven't had much time to play around with it yet.

Just a quick question before I go out and buy new SD cards, what are the limitations for SD cards on this unit? From what I have observed in this thread most people are going for 4GB cards, is this because of the Fat vs Fat32 issue or because of the performance issues with larger cards?

Also Sandy can you please email me the latest firmware, I would love to update it ASAP.
