Thank you for the detailed review.

I'd imagine that more information from stations such as messages and song info would be something that will be implemented in the DAB solution, so they probably won't bother with the other RDS fields right now.

You're right that the RNS is a more refined product, but there are aspects of the ANS that are in fact superior to the RNS unit, most notably the map software and media capabilities (by that I mean compatibility with media formats, media browsing at the moment is still rather basic). In about a month's time (if development goes according to plan) you can also expect some groundbreaking OBDII capabilities of which I have seen previews but am not yet allowed to make public

The goal of the ANS has always been to be a full replacement for the RNS. As of now, RNS software is more refined and has deeper integration with MFD, but you can definitely expect things to change in the future. For those that do not mind the drawbacks that ANS has right now (I for one for example, always have MFD on fuel consumption, and barely make calls in the car, just receive them which ANS handles fine), this unit can indeed be more attractive than the RNS. I have a happy customer who replaced his RNS-510 with the ANS and he's not looking back

    Sat Nav question.

When you have no route and the map is just following the car, there is a compass at the top of the screen with a 'random' 3 digit number either side. Any idea what the numbers mean?

I had a look on the SD card and Google but couldn't find a manual.

I'm not sure about those numbers since I don't use the compass myself - are you using the recommended diMka skin or the default one?

It's difficult to provide a manual as each GPS manufacturer modifies their Primo slightly and while the one provided here is the international edition, each custom skin can again change the user interface.

For a general guide you can see the following link, but not everything may be applicable for the reasons mentioned. No luck on the compass question though:

    It's not a random number.
It's the house number of the street you're on.

That's a pretty good manual thanks.
Not confirmed but I think I've spotted something about house numbers.
    I'll check tomorrow.

For those that have the units.. how does the GPS compare to say a TomTom/Garmin type GPS?

Tossing up between just buying a $300 gps unit and trying to replace the RCD-510 in my R36 (although I can't actually find any instructions on how to remove the unit in a MY09 R36 !)

I've used a NavMan unit and TomTom on iPhone and now this ANS810. They're all different and all have good and bad points.
I've been using this one for 3 days; it's fast, accurate , plenty of options to play with.
Navigating menus can be a little slow sometimes but not yet got frustrated.
And the 8" screen is excellent.

I think once you have the trim off its fairly easy to swap units.

yeah I have always been a TomTom fan.. have never liked any other GPS software... so i was surprised in that I think this iGo Primo is actually very very decent.. my plan was to just replace it with TomTom but so far I havnt seen any need to...

I really like how the voice directions come out the front speakers whilst the music keeps playing... the 8 inch screen (800x480) looks great with the Primo software... it seems to be a fully featured GPS program with pretty much everything you could want so I will be sticking with it...

I was driving along a route and decided to take a different direction and it was pretty quick at calculating the new route for me which was good.. and it seems highly configurable with different skins that you can apply...
