I agree, but some of my best music is only part of a video DVD hence the options below.
And if you do want this unit to feed some rear seat headrest screens then you do need to turn off the front screen when on the move ....which at least can be done manually

Anyway, I can probably rip the music from the DVD to file.

Am really loving the unit by the way. For the money there is no alternative on the market.
And its fun to discover how to get the best from a new toy.

Are these 2 or 4 volt pre outs for the RCAs?

The Pre Outs are on a 15cm tail with a female RCA on the end of them.

I'm currently using the Sub Pre Out feeding an Infinity amp/ 10" down firing sealed box sub in the boot of my Tig and the ANS speaker outs driving the door speakers.
I had the front speakers upgraded to Vibe Black Air 6.5" Splits and the front doors dynamatted.

I'm still tuning the balance of the front, rears and subs but its a big improvement.
Biggest problem I have is the variety of music I play....what suits one genre doesn't suit another.

I may end up using all 5 channels of the amp since I seem to be driving the head unit volume into the high 30s most of the time.

The EQ page of the ANS is a little odd. The order of the sliders doesn't make sense; surely it should go Sub, Bass, Middle, Treble ?
And adjusting the sliders is a little fiddly and maybe needs some half increments and nudge buttons.
And there needs to be an adjustable High Pass Filter on the Fronts and Backs allowing most of the bass to be sent to the sub.

Nevertheless, if you work a little you can produce a good sounding system.
The head unit itself seems to sound pretty clean and does not distort or hiss at high volumes.

    The pre outs are 2V.

I don't pretend to be a car audio expert, but I highly doubt there is a discernible difference between 2v, 4v or higher within a car environment, what with all the metal plus road noise etc. Having said that this is not just my opinion, there are plenty of people with more knowledge in audio systems who would agree.

On a side note, there are some news coming, stay tuned...

I just have two questions. I just bought the Polo GTI with the rcd510.
    1. Does it work with the bluetooth controller on the side of the unit?
    2. Does it have red/speedlight camera alert function?
I am sold if it has the above two features looking to get both the 810 and the reverse camera for the car.

Hi I am new to this forum. Coming from Denmark. Have just brought an ANS510. I have two questions: How do you see which firmware version the unit is running and where do you get the update firmware? Jesper

It certainly has red light and speed cams and even favourite spots for mobile speed cams shown on Sat Nav.
And they seem to be up to date for the northern Sydney area.
The sat nav also shows that my VW speedo over reads by 6-8kmh (speedo says 77, 2 x GPS say 70)

Not sure what you mean by the blue tooth question.
It has basic Bluetooth built in.
It can make and receive calls.
It has a built in mic but no ext mic input.
You can stream music via BT and do play pause, next prev track, but no text info on screen.

Any existing BT unit in car (under drivers seat?) is redundant.
    Does that answer the question?

I am referring to the unit below.

It will look weird to have a touch controller there that is inoperable that's all. I am very tempted to get your unit though. Missus wants GPS and reverse camera option.

I will see what the original RCD510 operates when I pick up the car on wednesday then we will decide.

From a quick google search that is the BT interface fitted to some VWs.
It is completely redundant with the ANS810.
Having said that, you will see in the original post that DkN says the BT interface interface on the ANS is quite basic.
It receives calls fine but a big address book is a bit clunky at the moment.
And it only shows you the number calling, not the name etc.

You can check your firmware version by going into the Aux In screen, then pressing and holding the centre of the bottom of the screen until the firmware version screen shows up.

You would have to get updates from who you purchased the unit from.

That's correct, at the moment the ANS does not support external bluetooth options, so depending on how often you dial numbers in the car, this could be a downgrade from factory bluetooth options if they exist. But as I said, the unit receives calls fine, it's just going through the contacts list that could be a bit of a chore at the moment, although I have made suggestions and they are now considering a speed dial function along with other improvements.
