A VCDS system scan might reveal where to look.
This has been what is frustrating. I can't figure out why I lost power at the right rear reverse wire. I don't see a blown fuse. I have run VCDS and don't find anything that points out an issue. I even tried to change the coding for the lighting in case somehow the system changed a bit/byte setting. No help with using the common lighting setting changes common to those who have either installed LED and/or fog rear lighting.

Like I mentioned I have taken a break. My next ideas are still to investigate whether there is a VCDS coding change that could help activate this rear reverse power line. Or, perhaps during my wiring it led to a short somewhere in the wire....who knows where...I hope it isn't this.

Thanks for the feedback. I'll have some more time to work on it this weekend. What really confuses me is why there is no bulb warning light since the right rear reverse light is not active....makes me think there still could be a VCDS setting that will magically reactivate power to the wire in question....I can only hope.

    Paul.

If you own the unit, a good place to look might be the VCDS forum — there's a wealth of information to be had there.

It would be unusual for you to have shorted anything without having noticed it, and if you did, that's what fuses are for — have you identified and actually checked the relevant fuse (with a meter or light, just looking isn't always positive proof.)

Also check the light bulb itself (and its ground,) and make very certain your new device actually works in a test environment.

No one responds on the VCDS forums I have posted on (tdiclub site).

Bulb and ground have checked out OK.

Have never had anyone confirm which fuse is responsible. But, visually all look good and there is no other electrical outages and I assume the right rear reverse light would not have a dedicated circuit.

I'll email ross-tech directly and see if they have any recommendations on VCDS tweaks.

    Thanks,

    Paul.

Update on the new generation unit

I am going overseas next week and will be away until 27 June. By that time, the new unit should be ready for release. I am starting an EOI / waiting list HERE and encourage anyone waiting for the new unit to go there and make a post to express your interest.

When I come back from the holiday I will go through the thread and add all interested people to the list and send a PM to confirm order and pricing. The first order will be put through as a group buy at discounted prices, and I will confirm what they will be when I return. The standard price is expected to be around $750-800 upon release, and I would expect around 10% discount, or maybe even more depending on numbers. Those who respond to me by 30 June will also receive an invoiced dated 30 June if you want to squeeze it in before the EOFY

The new DNS-810 will have power on top like the ANS-810?

Stupid question but why do most people go for the ANS-510 and ANS-810, why not ANS-610?

    Thanks

Yes, the external front panel design will not change much.

Regarding the popularity of the 610, that's just because I initially carried only the 810 and 510. In their domestic market in China the 610 is the most popular because it's about as big as the screen can get while still sticking close to the RNS-510 look.

My personal preference has always been the 810 though, because you get a significant screen size upgrade and while it doesn't look like an RNS-510 it still looks perfectly stock and integrated with the dash. I'd happily bet that anyone who doesn't know VW head units will not be able to spot the ANS-810 as aftermarket.

It will also have OEM style connection in the back - no more adapters, and this also means it will use the factory FAKRA antenna connection and therefore eliminate all radio reception issues.:
Will the new DNS-710 use the same 26 pin connector like the OEM RNS510 for reversing camera et al? Or will an an adapter to RCA be required?
    Thanks
