Another Noob Here Needs Help BT & Media cable not working !

Hi there guys i picked up a 2010 Jetta TDi Highline the other week the owners manual says that i have the RCD510 , for some reason when i plug my phone in to the Media cable in the glove box a message comes up on my iphone which says it does not support this device , also it will not pair up to the Bluetooth either ? My phone is a iphone 4S with IOS 8.3 update . Any help would be much appreciated .

First thing would be to ensure you are running the latest firmware which most likely you are not. Follow this link to do and try it then...

It is easy but ensure you follow the instructions exactly.

Need to check first that you have a bluetooth module. Its not part of the RCD unit, its a separate unit that is installed from factory under the driver's seat.
When you press the phone button on the RCD what does it show?

If you do have a BT unit, can you be more specific about not being able to pair? Turn on BT on your phone, make sure its discoverable (search) and then accept the pairing request on phone and MFD.

Also the media cable supplied with the car may ONLY be the charging cable. To get music you need a "proper" media cable which is about $80 from VW or $15 on Ebay Even with the good cable mine always said device not supported but just click it off and it worked.

Was such a pain to get phone in the glovebox I never used it once the novelty wore off. All music on an SD card and phone connects on Bluetooth.

Iphones have always been an issue with the factory media interface and Bluetooth.

As per above, you need to be using the Apple-specific cable for the Media-In, not your USB charge cable plugged into the Media-In USB cable.

If it's a basic VW Bluetooth kit, it'll be stuffed in behind the radio unit.

Is there anyway of knowing just by looking under the seat or will i have to remove the seat ? Also when i press the phone button on the RCD it just mutes . I have tried on numerous occasions to pair following the instructions you gave me to no avail . But when you go to the set up function it asks you if you want BT audio on or off so that's why i'm thinking it is a BT unit .

BT audio is Bluetooth audio streaming, which is a bit different.
