AM Radio interference when using Garmin nuvi 3597
Hi all,
Looking for some advice from those more experienced. I hardwired the power of a new Garmin nuvi 3597 gps into my MY07 T5 Transporter that has a RCD200 radio/cd.

My wiring is as follows: a new a double adaptor fuse and lead replacing the vans cig. lighter fuse supply...to a new dash mounted switch (with led light to show active)...to a new cig. lighter socket hooked up to the gps' power lead and hidden in the dash behind the radio unit. The earth for the new cig. lighter socket and led switch (needed so that it will glow when turned on) was taken from an installed genuine Nokia CK-7W car kit with Bluetooth that linked into wiring of the RCD 200. The previous Navman MY450LMT gps had no static interference. It's inline traffic receiver was down near the power socket plug and so was down away from the radio. It was also only ever plugged into the vans ash tray cig. socket only.
The Garmin has it's traffic receiver up close to the actual unit and as I mounted the units base onto the dash tray above the radio I now get plenty of static interference on AM radio. With AFL finals on AM is very important right now, lol. Any ideas on how I could kill the interference? Would earthing the wiring to the body of the radio make any difference? The radio removal keys are 40 kays way from home atm so I can't do it to try but wondered if those better experienced could kindly advise. The unit also caused static when it was plugged directly into the van's ash tray cig. lighter socket. Is there a way I can shield the radio from the gps traffic receiver? I really want to keep the unit mounted in the dash tray.
Cheers.
