Has anybody sound deadened more than just the two front doors when getting their speakers upgraded? I'm wondering whether road noise in my Golf V1 is emanating from the wheel arches (I'm running Hankook Ventus Prime2) or from the fire wall?

When you say loss of the MFD, what would be lost? I'm not sure what you have installed in your GTI aprt from the MDI and bluetooth option.
If it's just a lack of scrolling through the phone book on the MFD, I'll live, much like the lack of sat nav directions on the MFD.

Thanks for the advice. I'll keep an eye out for your GTI around the traps.

It looks sweet as and comes with BT and USB connection. After install I'd say I'm at least $2k better off.
I've had that unit stickied to my favourites bar along with a few of the other options I was looking at. It looks like a pretty good unit for the price.

OK. So Iv'e got my unit and I can say it's not that bad at first glance.

Can anyone give me some links or advice for removing the old rcd310 and installing the new unit? Mainly the bit where I remove the fascia from the old stereo.
    Thanks.

Lever and pull... work the surround from the edge then gently pull it out. There is a few steel clips on the back holding onto some plastic piece in the dash. I wouldnt worry about breaking the behind bit, just worry about the fascia itself and it should be all good.

Where abouts in Sydney are you located?

I'm just off the bridge at Neutral Bay.
Thanks for the advice. I ended up doing the install in the dark last night. Easy as.
    So far I'm pretty happy.
I'm just about to start playing with the functions, so a write up will be soon to follow.

Ps. The mfd displays audio details.
