Aftermarket head unit/stereo for Golf R

    Hi all,

Has anyone put in an aftermarket head unit (eg Alpine, Pioneer) into a mkVI golf with the rcd510 head unit?

I'm looking at putting in this Alpine Electronics of Australia
and whilst I'm happy that it will work with my steering wheel controls I'm wondering how it will go for all the other info (eg climate control) which comes up on the rcd510 screen.

Also I'm going to put in a couple of amps which will put out a total of 1800w RMS so I'm not sure if the stock alternator/electrical system will be up to handling this much power?

    Cheers

i installed the Alpine INA-W900E into my mkvi gti a couple of weeks ago now.
    A few things

1: Do not use the connects2 interface kit, as it does not allow use of the phone button on your steering wheel.
Instead get the Alpine interface kit which does allow the use of the button

2: Get the connects2 or alpine facia kit. Alpine is the best i have seen with soft touch plastic. there is another one which i have used which is crap. Cheap nasty plastic. Will be ordering an Alpine one to replace it.

3: Installation is very simple so you can do it yourself easily enough

As for the climate control images that come up on the head units screen, you will lose it, but it was of no big deal to me as i didn't see them serving any great purpose and was just a novilty thing

here are some pics of it in my car

    Sat nav works very good
bluetooth is great and has been able to sinc with every phone i have tried
ipod is full speed, so its like using the ipod itself, no delays at all.

love it. If i had a complaint, it would be the ipod cover art is very small, no big deal though

Thats looks awesome, thanks heaps for the info.

I reckon I'll leave the install to the pro's though...last time I tried installing stereo gear in my HR it caught fire

If you are in melbourne i will be happy to do it for you.
Everything is plug and play. No cutting of wires required

Otherwise, sure leave it to the pros. Just make sure you let them know which canbus interface kit to use

not sure about the parking sensors as i dont have them on my car. it has an input for a reverse camera so if its connected via rca no problems at all.
