    95 VR6 central locking question...

now, this is probably going to sound utterly retarded, but, i don't know if my car has central locking.....

i have looked for a fuse or relay but to no avail, the owners manual has central locking in it but with a * meaning it was optional for some models (but doesn't say which ones)...

did all vr6 golf/jettas come with centralk locking? if so, mine obviosly isn't working :/

inb4 "does the car unlock all the doors when you turn the key" type responses.....

Try the key in the passenger door. Should work from both sides. Drivers door likely to quit first?? Not got a manual in front of me but there's likely to be a fuse check the lid of the fuse box.

    passenger door doesn't work either...

    found the fuse in question;

fuse 21 - luggage compartment & interior lights, cigarette lighter, clock, central locking, multi-function indicator.

but all the other things on that fuse work fine... had it been blown i would think none of them would work?

Assuming it's the same as the Golf system it's run off a vacuum system, the three usual problems are fuse, pump and lines.

If the fuse is good you should hear the pump running from the drivers side rear quarter panel, if thats not going, it's the pump.

If the pump is going, there is a crack in the vacuum line(s).

sorry, i should have been more clear, its a vr6 golf.. so it would be the vacuum system...

according to your post, it would seem that it is the pump that has stopped working... what is the next course of action? is it repairable (easily) or will i need to buy a new one?

From what I understand you have a couple of choices.

A new pump should sort you out, but you could still have cracked piping, something you won't know till it's working.

Plan B is to get normal electric solonoids put in in their place, although this involves some butchery.

Eitherway you might want to consider one of these two kits for remote central locking!:

This one is just the remote central locking (which hooks up to the stock air pump with 4 wires )
    Rightclick

This kit includes the solenoids (but is otherwise exactly the same) if you want to go down that path:

I have the older version and it works a treat and I now have funky switchblade keys
