2015 Polo GTI - Software & Bluetooth issues galore!

edit: I'll start by saying whilst there is an extreme amount of information on your forums I was unable to locate much about the software hence this thread. Hopefully this thread is fine and meets all the requirements of your community

So my little brother just bought a Polo GTI and he is having plenty of issues with the software and the dealership he purchased the car from. He has spoken to VW Australia and is heading back to the dealership soon but before he goes I'd like to find out as much as I can for him.

If anyone is able to help supply this information and how you know it, it will be very appreciated.

    1) His headunit currently has software 0137, He has asked his dealership if he can get a software update and they were basically clueless. I believe I read on this forum that a user had 0138 and his post was many months ago. Does anyone know what the latest version is as this could be the root of his issues?

    2) He bought an ex demonstrator that has mirrorlink but when opened asks for something from the dealership. When he purchased the car the salespeople told him it came with mirrorlink. At the time of purchasing the car the Polo GTI website states it has App-Connect which allows mirrorlink, Android Auto and Apple Carplay. It makes no mention of this being a 2016 model exclusive.

He has since been told that his car shouldn't even have mirrorlink even though it currently exists on it.

    3) Bluetooth is buggy. He had a Nexus 4 on android 5.1.1 running fine. He recently bought a OnePlus X which is also on 5.1.1 and it doesn't work, it connects and finds the phone/car but doesn't allow control. It shows he's connected to Optus but won't allow him to make calls, or view texts. The bluetooth see's what music he is trying to play but won't play through the car nor will it allow the car touchscreen to control the media. I've also tried it with my OnePlus One running Android 6.0 and I couldn't even connect to his car.

    4) Does anyone know the model of the headunit in 2015 vs 2016? From the pictures on the website it looks identical which leads me to believe it's a simple software update to unlock everything they mentioned when selling him the car.

The phones are working fine because we jumped in Dads car and everything worked perfectly.

So at the moment he's really frustrated. He's getting no help from the dealership and we'd like to have some hard facts about the software so we can know where we stand. He also feels like there has been some serious false advertising going on, their website mentions nothing about it being 2016 exclusive and he asked the salespeople numerous times about the compatibility and even had "Mirrorlink" used as a persuading sales pitch.

Sorry for the wall of text but I'd like to help him as best I can so any information or opinion is extremely appreciated. Thanks

edit: At the end of the day our goal is the have bluetooth work and Android Auto.

    Hey,

From what I've read your brother has purchased an MY15 mode which has an older head unit, you can confirm this by checking if he has a sports button. If he has that button then it's an MY16, if not it's an MY15 and no app connect etc will be available now or in the future, it cannot be upgraded.

Google "VW MY16" for a ton of articles on the sweeping updates VW made this June.

Hmm...It would appear that the problem with your brothers head unit is buyers remorse.

He purchased a car with MIB I but wants MIB II. Had he purchased MY16, he'd have it. Discounted demo- so he got what he paid for.

Thanks for the replies guys. Turns out he has a MY15 and as you can see from the reply this user got VW aren't supporting a feature they have in the cars? MY15 Polo GTI Mirrorlink

Which is pretty bull**** considering a major factor he purchased the car was due to the mirrorlink support and bluetooth connectivity which you can see in the above thread, second post is buggy as hell and only works very limited phone models. The sales people at the dealership continuously mentioned mirrorlink and the bluetooth connectivity as a selling point and as working features which clearly they're not.
