    2010 (MY10) Golf R head unit

    Hello,

I just bought a 2010 Golf R with the stock head unit in it. It's got Bluetooth, but it won't stream music from my phone to the head unit. Is this normal? Can it be fixed? What are the normal upgrades people are doing?

    Cheers!

Maybe an AUX cable from the phones headphone jack to the AUX inlet in the centre console will work? Then charge the phone off the 12v socket?

You'd probably have the 9w2 bluetooth module, AFAIK you need the 9w7 module for music streaming.

You can do that, or if you have an iPhone, use the MDI port which will power the phone as well.

factory BT will stream music. So will a 9w2 and 9w7 BT after factory installed kit. If you have a RCD/RNS 510 and it shows phone book etc on radio screen then you have a 9w7. If it doesnt show on radio then you might have a 9w2. Either or it should stream music Via your phone.

Yeah, nah - It doesn't stream music.

When you press the "Media" button, it goes to a screen with the AUX input, CD, DVD and a Bluetooth symbol up the top, but the Bluetooth symbol is greyed out. And yes, Bluetooth does work because I've used it to make phone calls.

Have you tried a different phone. The BT symbol is sometimes grayed out until you actually start playing the music on your phone and then it lights up and can be selected. Try a older phone first as lots of BT issues are due to phone settings

We both have iPhone 6 plus. I've had the music playing, but the Bluetooth symbol stays greyed out.

Is there an easy upgrade to the Bluetooth?
