15" sub

so i got my hands on a sub, 15", just wondering on some diagrams for a sub box. i want an open box. i had a quick geez on google but thought it would be quicker n easier to ask around here...

Don't suppose you have the make and model number of the subwoofer?

Most subs have their own specific box sizes that they work most efficiently in. So, if you know the make and model, there's probably somewhere to find the cubic capacity for ideal bass.

spot on Jondarren! and one thing to remember gimp1, some subs sound like rubbish in an open box (i assume by open you mean ported). i made a custom sub box for my old 15" back in school and when it was ported, the bass was too loose and sounding like a constant fart. when i sealed the port, the thing blew my bloody ears off and sounded sweet!

once you get the model number, search around the net as you will find that there are different required cubic foot sizes for ported and sealed boxes (it is generally the case). if you bought the sub brand new, look in the manual and it will give you everything.

I have run a few 15" set ups, and found bigger is always better.
Some of my boxes have been up to 2.5cf when ported. Sure, you will get no responce out of the sub above 50hz, but when you want to play with the big boys, you gotta pay the price. Having your head crushed at 30hz is da BOMB!

its at my mates house. ill get on it as soon as i can with the number and all that. its a boss 15" 800w amp. duno the model or model number but like i said ill get onto it.

search the description of the sub. most brand name subs will have on there web sites open and closed box sizes.
