***attention r32 owners***

Hi gang,

In need of some serious friendly assistance.

Problem:

I have installed a C Version RNS510 into my R32. Everything worked (incl MFD status and steering wheel controls etc). BUT, somewhere along the line, my somewhat non-gynaecologic friendly fingers may have hit an incorrect key while checking some VCDS (aka VAGCOM) codes. Now, the LHS of the steering wheel (volume up/down/mute) no longer works, and the RHS only works when the MFD is displaying fuel consumption etc....not when Audio is selected.

I have searched, and searched and searched some more (everywhere). Tried (almost) every known cure for this and related issues raised by others. And now I've come down to one of my last hopes. I would like the VCDS Log readout from someone who has a similarly spec'd R32 to ours.

Details are:
Manufactured April 2008
DSG/5 Door (not that the number of doors would make a lot of difference)
RNS510 (either factory fitted, or installed post delivery and now working flawlessly).
NO BLUETOOTH MODIFICATIONS/ADDITIONS
NO OTHER 'CAN' MODULE MODIFICATIONS due to the installation of other equipment (eg, RVC, MDI)

Can have a Sunroof (ours does, but not that important).

Specifically, the modules I need to interrogate are:
Modules 09, 16, 37, 46, 47, 56

There is nothing malicious intended with this request, I just need to cross check the codes to find the error.

The log file will only be about 10 - 12kb (text/notepad form) and once someone is able to do this, I'll forward to them an email address for it to be sent to (me).

Really hope someone can assist with this.

I don't have a similar car but have this screenshot for module 16 (which you've probably already seen in VCDS):






Yours (in theory) should be like this:

0001632

The 1 means its Auto/DSG
The 6 means you have the buttons on the steering wheel, DSG paddles, and no Push To Talk (bluetooth).
The 3 means you have cruise control on the same stalk as the indicators
The 2 means you have a rear window wiper.


There may be other modules to check but this should be a decent start. You could also try asking your dealer to look at it.

Thanks Ryan, A very good start.

I've asked at the dealer.....they claim that the 2008 R32 MFSW never worked with the RNS. I had to hang up while I pissed myself laughing, then rang them back and asked "Are you serious?" They then changed their story to "The firmware you have loaded onto the RNS is too advanced for that generation unit." FWIW...I had/have FW2660 on a C unit. In other words.....they had no idea, and weren't prepared to interrogate the issue. I downgraded the FW to 1300 (at their suggestion) and that didn't work, as I suspected, but was prepared to give it a try.

I'm off to check the module specs you kindly posted. Will report back shortly. Many thanks

ba-bow...nope. The code assist screen J527 coding as per the first image in your post, reveals slightly different codes compared to mine.
I recalculated my code (to confirm), and it still does not work. My code (as per VCDS) is 0012122

No worries - I've seen a few other posts here where others with similar cars to yours couldn't get the MFSW buttons to work properly either, not sure if they ever got resolved. Think there was someone with an R36 asking here within the last 2 months if you want to search.

***UPDATE***

Got a chance to do some recollection/thinking yesterday.....and did my best to recall the sequence of events and what firmware versions I had managed to upgrade to. I think I managed to get the unit up to FW2760 (which I found various versions of at vwnavi.com).

So, while watching TV last night, I downloaded what I recalled to be a version of FW2760 that I had downloaded before, but for the life of me, can't seem to locate the disc. This morning, I burned the .nrg file to a disc (DVD-R) and went out and tried to load it. Usual "Can't read CD/DVD" notice came up, waited......Unit turned off, then started up with the usual FW/SW process.....found the SWL image and began loading. So far so good. The load process went thru each of the software modules and I noticed that the last module was "Gateway Update", and I thought to myself...."I wonder.......?"

After about 40 minutes, we got to the Gateway Update, and the load process went thru in increments, unlike previous installs which saw it go from 0% to 100% in a nano-second. So...the unit went thru the reboot sequence, advised of successful update, and disc became ejected. Turned the unit back on, and confirmed that the radios stations were kept, .mp3s were still on the HDD, and maps still on HDD.

So....now for the test.....key in ignition, turned to pre-start status (ignition on, no engine running)...tried the MFSW buttons....YOU ****EN BEAUTY............they work....everything back to normal.

First things first....many thanks to everyone who read this thread, those that took time to post a response, PM me or generally said..."tough **** Steve ". Thanks to young Robbie who thru his PMs sounded about as worried as I was, and his generous offer to speak to the guys at his dealership re the coding issue.

Thanks to Tinto for allowing me to raid his GTI 'relli VCDS coding to do some comparisons, and also to Noodles and Thad for offering their R32s as a baseline comparison.
