    I wouldn't think so either, since performance as a variable can be eliminated, due to VW's in-house oil standards and approval procedures.

    Hence, that gives you the freedom to direct your money to your lubricant manufacturer of choice.


    EDIT - heh, unless of course, your lubricant manufacturer of choice doesn't make 504/507 oils.

    Thanks for the response Transporter. He also told me he did the Haldex filter himself.. Apparently it's about 500 buck he told me. Going from a 94 Civic to a Golf, I'm not sure what to expect and whether I should get it checked out.

    So what is the preference? Penrite or Lm Toptec? Both around the same price, but if anyone prefers one over the other, would love to hear about it.

    As Diesel_vert said, it's pretty much your choice. But if you couldn't make a decission, then go with LM.

    Sounds good. I will grab that. While I'm at it, any preferences for coolants? Did a quick search, but nothing really popped up...

    The VW coolant is not expensive, so don't get tempted to use something else that will most likely corrode or cause leaks in the cooling system. Change the coolant in 4th or 5th year and then every 2-3 years.
