15w40 is what i use for my '91 mk2 id assume its something similar... just check your manual it will tell you.
Checked my oil this morning and it's towards low but I don't have any suitable for older cars. Only magnatec and I don't think my golf will enjoy consuming that!
I don't have much idea on what to buy so could someone please advise me on which is best ... 1994 model.
Also noticed that I need to top up the coolant! Is coolant pretty much standard for all types of cars?

I have been running Fuchs 10w40 fully synthetic in my VR6 with no issues except that it tends to burn a bit off. Am currently running Castrol GTX2 20w50 to see if it likes that a little better being such a hot running engine.
It was down to a choice of that or Magnatec after much discussion on here.

I did some research and read that they make oil for older cars, over 75k, synthetic. Browsed quite a few different pages about it and found a link about it to WC back in 2002...

Most were for it and had no problems switching over. Are most of you using synthetic oil? Mobli 1 had a fair amount of good reviews.
I guess one can only try a few and see which runs better in the car. I plan on making a visit to get some today, so I will let everyone know how it goes!
I'm sure there are newbies out there like myself ... not much idea on how cars run but willing to learn. Found this site on oils...

You are wasting your money with a synthetic oil in that car.
Castrol or similar will be fine and a 5th of the price.

To eat my own words I ended up getting magnatec. Much in my price range and my partner recommended it. He's been using it in his magna for a few years now.
So much knowledge to gain about cars and how they work!
