Brand is not as important as the specs and manufacturer approvals.

For the sake of maybe saving $50-$60 it's probably not really worth the effort trying to source and supply your own oil. The dealer isn't going to put inferior oil in it.

    Hi

I am little bit confused since Castrol edge titanium 5w-30 LL is VW approved oil.
Why dealer would not put better oil if approved by VW?

Just because they use the word "Titanium", it doesn't mean that the product is better than the other approved oils.

Castrol isn't the only approved VW oil.

There's a whole list of them.

Most dealers don't even stock the 5L Castrol anymore.

Penrite Enviro+ 5w-30 is widely used by members on here as a very good quality oil that meets/exceeds VW specs. It is also well priced and Australian made:Penrite Enviro+ Engine Oil - 5W-30, 5 Litre - Supercheap Auto

As for DSG oil, Audi VW BMW DSG Transmission Oil 1L G052182A2 Run Auto Parts OR LIQUI MOLY Dual Clutch Transmission Oil 8100 1L Audi/VW DSG | Sparesbox | Sparesbox

Because its all about the profit margins .... our local VW dealer is using Valvoline vw 504 507 spec because they get it cheaper then castrol

Nothing wrong with that if it’s VW approved.
Personally the Castrol is the last oil I’d use.
