I don't see anywhere saying approved by VW for 504.00/507.00
Is it for your 02 Bora? Even though it will be expensive and VW approved oil can be had for less than $85 (even less than that if you shop around), just not worth it, to me.
Anyone used Hi-Tec oils and lubes before?
They have a low SAPS 5w/30w full synthetic but it doesn't appear to have vw approval.

To date, Hi-Tec Synplus 5W-30 is not on Volkswagen's approved oil list.
I would at least use any VW approved 504/507 oil until the warranty expires, to avoid any possible hassles regarding the claims process. Whatever oil you use after that period is up to you (though if it were my car I would continue using approved oils - takes the guesswork out of oil choice).
I think Penrite is the only Australian manufacturer that has a 504/507 approved oil (Enviro+ 5W-30) if you're interested in that sort of thing.
Shell is also approved for VW 502 00/503 01/505 00, for thier Helix Ultra 5w40 or thier Helix Ultra Extra 5w30 which is approved for 504 00/507 00.
You can check thier web site, you can search for these products through thier search field.
I have used Shell with all my cars i have ever owned, reason being they at least provide you with the truth, ifthey havent got approvals they will say refer to dealer, they don;t just say meets requirementsand thier tech line will also advise you of that.
Cheers
