I'm just about to pick up 10 litres, so if anyone in Adelaide needs some, contact me, cause there's no way I can see me using 10 litres (I hope).

Ta, Rod. It'll be 2.5 years before I will be allowed to change the oil in my TDI (warranty) but nice to know for topping up.

Aren't you supposed to change the oil with the annual service?Originally Posted by brackie
Now here's the paradox. If it's true that the first fill of oil is "running in" oil, then surely it should stay in until the kms get high enough to replace it with fully synthetic. If it's there because it's needed until the engine is bedded enough to change oils, then surely the time is irrelevant.

Obviously they are Euro oils but you get the picture. There are a number of other oil standard listings on the site as well. You just have to register (free) to see the listing. It is also the source for all VW workshop manuals via subscription but be warned it can be expensive but it is truly extensive.
The 2.0 TDi has started to use a bit of oil after 3000k's.
Picked up some Fuchs Titan Supersyn Longlife Plus 0w30 at bursons auto parts.
They had to order it in, there part number is 3279004 List 91.05 plus GST.
It does VW503.00 506.00 506.01 According to a few posts on TDiClud forums
506.01 is the newer spec oil the covers 505.01 and the new long life 506.01 spec's.

Just picked up new Jetta. Have same oil requirements question. Dealer mentioned to keep eye on oil level especially in first 5000km. Question - since I needed to keep an eye on it and if I found myself needing it, what spec oil do I put in it at the service station??? Manual states VW507.00. Phoned Mobil and actually got a very helpful person! Mobil '1' 5W-40 = VW505.00 and VW506.00 spec (after investigation this is actually on the 5litre packaging on Mobil oil found at SuperCheap Auto.) Mobil '1 ESP' 5W-30 = VW507.00 spec especially for 2.0 Tdi vechicles fitted with particulate filter (which acording to Mobil information and the dealer all '07 spec Jetta vechicles are.) Mobil state that this oil is only in the barrel until next week when it will be moved to 20litre containers. Mobil tells me this oil will become more comercially available by the end of the year. These 20litre containers will be sent out next week and Mobil asked for a call back in a couple of weeks time to asked where these have been sent to where of which I will be able purchase.
Not a bad idea to bottle up in 1litre containers and sell to members?
I hope this has helped.
Firstly, congrats on the new Jetta
Thanks for the news and tips on oil. My TDI hasn't used enough oil to warrant a top up and has done 7500km. It goes for the first service next week and will have an oil change. I was warned about oil use before rings bedded in (not by the dealer but by gtimk5 ) so I've watched it carefully and I guess to a certain extent this validates my running in techniques for a diesel engine.
It's a pity that Mobil aren't continuing with the 5L packs as for most of us this would be the way to go. I like the idea of a group buy of a 20L drum but I fear that postage costs would negate the price advantage.
Brackie, please let us know how your first service goes. If you think of it ask what oil & spec they are using.
