Owners waiting for Eos delivery

Rather than reviving my earlier thread (Finally ordered today) I thought it was more appropriate to post to this one.

As mentioned there, I put in the order last week of December. Depending on when the orders from AUS were going to be built, the ETA was early April - late May.

It's now confirmed (and checked using the VIN and the Wallenius cargo tracking) that our Goddess will arrive in Melbourne on 20 April on board the Boheme (currently between Reunion and Fremantle!). Add another 2 - 3 weeks and we're looking at the first week of May.

Excitement is building now that there is a much more definite date. Carport is built to house the Passat and the Eos. All set.

In a way the waiting was not too bad since we have a perfectly fine (albeit too small) Colt convertible to play with at the moment. Gave us some more time to look at the finances. Now we can start advertising the Colt as well.

Anyway, good things come to those who wait.

Quick update:

The Boheme (vessel carrying our EOS) arrived in Mel one day ahead of schedule, Sunday, 19 April.

Call me a nerd but I actually drove down to Williamstown (The Strand) and checked - even took some photos (mind you, it was pitch-dark by then).

Will try to see the dealer this week to discuss the trade-in (will probably very disappointed with the offer), and then it's only a few more days.

Hope there will be a few more nice days before winter sets in.

I work for a shipping company guys, and let me tell you things arent all that peachy in the industry. Alot of unused tonnage (space) forcing sailings to be cancelled etc as otherwise losses are too great. If a ship isnt 90% utilised chances are it wont make money.

Similair to when an airline doesnt get enough passengers so they cancel a flight and move everyone.

Australian Airlines are required by law to fly a certain percentage of their published schedule. So without a valid reason, maintenance issues, crewing problems etc they don't just get to cancel flights.

I can't recall the exact figure off the top of my head but about 90% seems to ring a bell.

So thats the reason i always get cancelled flights..some over 2 weeks in advance?

I can guarantee in shipping though we dont have to do anything.

Canceled 2 weeks ahead is a Schedule change and not a cancellation

In the current economic conditions there are significant reductions in services by all airlines around the world.

Perhaps we are just using the same word to cover 2 different situations.

The rules I mentioned apply only to Australian operators not the foreign carriers but for an airline to just cancel a service creates major schedule disruptions across the entire network.

Service from 'A' to 'B' is canceled. Therefore now we don't have an aeroplane and a crew in 'B' to operate to 'C'. This leads to further disruptions in 'C' etc just like ripples in a pond. This is just the major assets let alone the disruptions to passengers and freight on that service and subsequent services for passengers and freight that were to be on loaded from 'B' to other destinations.

Major Airlines devote considerable time and money to schedule recovery because it is a significant business cost and canceling a service just because the loads are very light will often cost much more across the network that just flying an aeroplane from 'A' to 'B' at a loss.

Add in the additional complications such as slot times, curfews and maintenance problems and the day to day operation becomes complicated enough without creating your own problems.

Be all this as it may, we're finally in the finishing straight.

Message from dealer today that the car arrived there last night, and according to him it "looks stunning". White, black leather, sports suspension with Chicagos - yep, I can see that being stunning!!

Plan is to pick it up on Wednesday.

Only issue now is the "trade-in". The offer was really bad so we'll probably keep it and sell privately.

Will be back with first impressions and possibly photos.

Probably boring for most of you but here goes:

Just came back from the dealer to have a look at the car "as is" straight from the dock. Covered in the white foil, blue "bumper bits", the hooks (for tying down on the ship) still attached. Inside everything is covered in plastic foil, and it smells new (funny about that!).

Quite a sight but it's already quite clear that, once cleaned up, it'll look very nice. The sports suspension in combination with the 18" Chicagos make it (or her?) seem rather squat which is quite appealing. Pulling off some of the foil the white looks absolutely gorgeous.

I suppose that complaining about dealer delivery is wide-spread, and I've thought it's rather steep as well up to today. Looks like plenty of work to actually prepare the car from this state to where it can be delivered.

Only 4 more sleeps ... .
