OK - what you are getting is NOT the rSAP unit. The Volkspower fitted unit is NOT what VW sell as Premium, and yes it will work with the iPhone, because it's NOT rSAP. The reason it's cheaper is because it's a different unit, although functionality is pretty similar, minus the rSAP.

As to misinformation: you mean like this?:

"The premium one with rSAP should work with the iphone 3g.

The iphone does not support RSAP bt profile (like 90% off bt mobile phones out there)
so it drop back to normal bt phone mode and use the phone for the calls.

Saying it wont work with iPhone is wrong. It should work just not all the extra bells and whistles or rSAP mode"

All of those statements are unfortunately wrong.

VW Bluetooth options in a nutshell:

    1. VW $800 "basic" (based on a Nokia unit I believe) - no MFD or head unit integration
    2. Fiscon $900ish fitted - Full MFD and head unit integration, works with MFSW, no voice activation
    3. Skoda-type "premium" unit about $1500 fitted - NOT rSAP, full integration as Fiscon, plus voice activation
    4. VW "premium" about $2200 - rSAP phones ONLY (NOT iPhone), full integration, voice activation

    Not hard really.

EDIT - should add that 1 and 4 you'll get from your local friendly VW dealer when you order your beaut new VW. 2 you can get from advancedice and their retailers here in Oz, or you can order from Kufatec in Germany, and 3 you can get also from Kufatec or from Harding Performance or Volkspower, etc.

thanks for the summary Swallowtail awesome work..

Maybe we need a BT FAQ setup under the Car Audio section.

Its doing my head in with all different versions/name

Edit: I noticed you left Parrot off the list.. haha

    just to add to this..

if you are doing this yourself

    3. Skoda-type "premium" unit about $1500 fitted - NOT rSAP, full integration as Fiscon, plus voice activation

I think there are 4 different versions of the firmware/revisions for this. A/B/C/D
Some work with Golf IV (white dials) some work with Red/Blue.

I'm glad i'm just paying someone to make it work.

LOL... I think you had the right idea - paying for someone to do it.

As to a BT FAQ - do you mean like this: http://www.vwwatercooled.org.au/newf...ad.php?t=31461

It's a new sticky in the Audio section.

I'll put a note in there about the firmware versions.

    Cheers

    Hi Swallowtail,

In your above list, number 3 is the one known as the 9W3, VW part number 1Z0 035 729 D - is that correct?

The only thing I am not quite understanding is that as far as I know, the 9W3 is a true VW option - the one that is considered to be the best (?). Why on earth are Australian dealers offering number 4 (what is number 4 anyway? Is it an official VW part or just an Aussie dealer thing?) when number 3 is the official VW part, is better *and* cheaper?! Why do we have to go to Volkspower to get the VW genuine part installed rather than a dealer? It seems bizarre.

Also - with the 3rd option, I have read that the "D" model supports A2DP with the new iPhone 3.0 firmware. Have you seen this personally? I am starting to hear about an "E" version as well - any idea what the difference is with this?

    Cheers,
    David

Swallowtail.. I think you need to add this to the FAQ.

I knew i read it somewhere and it was here the whole time

    http://www.ozvolks.com/forums/showthread.php?t=541

    specifically for the RSAP version

    <snip>
The big issue for me however is that the system only uses the GSM 900/1800 band, not the Next G UMTS 850 band. As such, once you are outside of the city or major regionals the thing has no connection a lot of the time. I pulled over by the side of the Hume last night with "No connection" showing to the VW unit, yet after I turned off the car I instantly had three bars of Next G service on the phone.

The Skoda kit is a VW part yes. Not sure why it is not offered by VW here.

I have seen A2DP with an iPhone 3.0 on my phone, with the Fiscon unit though not the 729. I found the sound quality unsatisfactory.

I don't know anything about the details of specific versions of the 729 (9W3).

That link is for the Scirocco - any chance of the real link...

If this is true then that's a major issue with that system.
