Has my Eos been lowered?

Hello everyone,

I'm Peter from WA and have just joined this forum.

I picked up my new EOS FSI with the sports suspention and 18" rim option a few weeks ago, but am now wondering if in fact the car has been lowered as it was supposed to be. Can I ask some of you 17" rim owners to take two measurments for me.

I need the measurment for front and back from the centre of the rim to the mudguard (in mm). See attached picture (measurment between the red lines).

I'm not sure if the diesel heights are the same, so I would prefer the measurments from an FSI.

Hi Leigh,

I don't see that many around, I don't think Perth gets a big alotment.

Mine is a 2007 Eos 2.0 FSI DSG, Silver, Black interior, 18" Samarkand Alloys, Lowered (maybee) Aftermarket Bluetooth and aftermarket iPod.

I used a VW specific Parrot phone kit that's fully integrated with the car. I use a PDA/phone and the dealer couldn't guarantee compatibility.

I had a problem with the roof leaking, but spending $1,000,000 on a little tub of oil fixed the problem.

I love driving it, but the weather in Perth has been awful lately so the roof is mostly up. My kids love it too - they think it's a "Transformer".

Leigh has yours been lowered? If so, what is the distance measurement on yours.

Hi Peter and welcome to the forum.

Can't help with TFSI or 17" wheels but FYI and my curiosity..... TDI, DSG with 18" Samarkands, Leather, Bi Xenons.
Fronts..... 380mm
Rears...... 375mm

According to spec, 18" wheels with sports suspension should be 15mm lower than the 17's. Might also vary a few mm depending on options fitted.

Must arrange a GTG with you.... i know Leigh would be keen...somewhere central for us all would be suitable...... how's Alice Springs this time of year.

Okay so I got the tape measure out and the figures are -

Roof up - Front 380mm Rear 385mm

Roof down - Front 380mm Rear 380mm

Also I did notice some time ago a difference in the wheel arch plastic surrounds on the cars with 18" wheels and the 17" wheels. The cars with 18" wheels and sport suspension have an additional plastic tab approximately 90mm long which protrudes slightly beyond the metal of the wheel arch at the 2 o'clock position on the front wheels and the 10 o'clock position on the rear wheels. No idea what it is for however I have only seen it on the cars with 18" wheels and this would tend to suggest that there are differences that go beyond just the size of the wheel.

Additionally the cars are shipped with spaces in the suspension to provide a higher ride height during shipping so it will settle a little lower over time.

As for the phone kit I have the VW supplied one and it is a Parrot kit anyway

I have also had the "Transformer" comment as well.

As far as a get together goes while I regularly travel 4000-8000km in a day at work but driving to the Alice sounds a little too far for me

If they put the wrong size tyres (width/profile) on the 18" rim it could be sitting higher than it should be.. You might also want to confirm tyre size.

A good thought however the 18" Samarkand Alloys are a factory option so I am fairly sure that he would have the 235/40 R18 tires as per the factory specs.

Yeah fair enough, I guess it depend on whether they were dealer fitted or factory fitted in this instance.
