Eos wins a Gold star from Wheels

Wheels Gold Star Cars – Australian Car Magazine September 2007

Wheels has selected the best cars in category based on the following criteria -
Price, Insurance Cost, Fuel Cost, Warranty, Service, Safety, Driving. Limited to cars with a maximum value of $150,000 and only cars with some dynamic appeal.

    Convertibles under $150,000

Winner - Volkswagen Eos 2.0 TFSI (DSG)

Segment smashing $52K retail price for the Eos means you get much of the Euro convertible enjoyment at half the price of the Audi and just 40% of the BMW’s hefty$124K tag. The Eos nudges both competitors aside on resale potential, and is cheaper to insure – but not by as much as the massive price disparity might suggest. One thing that’s hard to reconcile is Volkswagen’s warranty – Audi offers unlimited kilometres, Volkswagen doesn’t. Surely there would be no technical impediment? The whole thing smacks of Marketing department smoke and mirrors, so Audi owners can feel that much more special.

    Second - BMW 335i (Auto)
    Third – Audi A4 V6 FSI (Auto)

Volkswagen also placed in the following categories –

Small – Medium $25,000 to $30,000 Third - Volkswagen Golf 2.0 FSI Comfortline (Man)
    Large $45,000 to $60,000 Second – Volkswagen Passat V6 FSI 4Motion (DSG)
Hot Hatches Second – Volkswagen Golf GTI 3-Door (Man)
    125i Sport Convertible | Alpine White | Coral Red | M261 18" | Debadged | Harman Kardon | Extended Mobile Phone Connectivity

Gotta love having impeccable taste - cannot disagree with Wheels' taste!

Regarding the warranty thing - I chose to purchase the extended warranty that gives you 5 years unlimited Ks for $1450 - a small price to pay if the mechanics of the 'transformer' roof choose to misbehave.... thank god it's 'made' by the Germans!

Looking around, there are not any real competitors with the Eos when you take into account some of the options - who else can give you a moon roof, a sunroof, and those magnificent dynamic and static cornering Xenons!!!! Bloody brilliant and great value to boot!! My mates are jealous!!
