Whistle noise coming from 07 Touareg

I just purchased a 07 Touareg with very low miles. The issue I'm having is a whistle noise you can hear (mostly at night) coming from the right front of the suv. It's been in the shop 3-times and they believe it's the break pad since the noise skips when your step on the gas. Would anyone know what this is and has any one experience the same light whistle noise.

I also had a flat this week and realize that the suv did not have a compressor or hose to use to inflate the tire. It was a hard way to learn what sort of tire I had in the suv. Where would I go an purchase a compressor which would allow me to inflate my tire without spending the $400-$475 the dealer is asking.

Is it a diesel?

Secondly, does the noise happen at any speed, or after a certain speed?

If it is the brakes, have you tried driving along with the brakes just lightly on?
or does it stop when you apply the brakes?

Can you make it whistle by revving it in the driveway?

Does it whistle more when you're off the gas, down a hill for instance?

you will find that with an inflatable tyre you are required to have a compressor in order to inflate the tyre is a requirement to have the vehicle road worthy. I would approach your seller (dealer was it?) and let then know about this. It is the same as not suppling your vehicle with a jack and tyre changing gear. Very strange for the compressor to be missing.

Also in order to obtain information on your problems please lets us know what model Touareg you have, with 4 engine configerations from 2007 and the change over between the first model Touareg and the facelift (T2) model we may be able to narrow down your problem.

Hay Hawk,
The tyre supplied with the Touareg is an inflatable tyre, there is no air it while in storage in the back of the vehicle.
When you need to use it there is then the requirement to inflate that tyre. The R5, V6, V6 TDI models come with a portable tyre comperssor as standard to enable you to inflate your tyre. The V10's have a compressor built in the vehicle and air is supplied via a plug in hose.

Part of Aust standards are that all vehicles must have the ability to be driven (if only to the nearest service centre) if they have a single flat tyre. That means the choice of run flat tyres capable for so many 100's of km, full size tyre, space saver tyre or (in the Touareg case) deflated tyre with vehicle generated air compressor.

If the vehicle is supplied with a deflated tyre as standard fitting than not having any means to inflate that tyre then that makes that vehicle unroadworthy.

There is no 4WD requirements as you will also see (as in the case of some Passats) cans of "tyre repair" supplied with the vehicle insted of spare tyres. This allows the tyre a quick repair to be driven home. A can of tyre repair foam is not suitable for the Touareg because of the weight requirements the tyres must meet and the possiblities of being off road.

OK, I didn't realise the spare was deflated... Will have to read up on this, but does it save much space? It's not like it's a cotton tyre than can be folded down now is it...

The spare looks quite small when deflated, inflated should be the same diameter as standard tyre. There is no room to store full size spare in the place of the space saver.
