Hey mate as there is plenty being said about your turbo ill leave that one as the guys are right, however your airbag suspension, check out arnotts air suspension in the states, awesome to deal with , ive done a few sets of Audi Allroad kits now with no dramas afterwards, and it all needs to be readapted to set the heights. Check them out, save $$$$$$$

    Cheers

Thanks for all your suggestions and information. I now know that a new turbo should be no more than $1500 and I also am confident that a fault such as the failed turbo on a well maintained 80,000km car should be covered by Australian consumer statutory warranty obligations. Hopefully the same will apply to the air suspension issue. The dealer has sent paperwork to VWA so we will see what happens. Meantime I have been without my Treg for 2 weeks. I'll update as things happen. Cheers. Geoff

    Update:

Turbo: After 4 weeks now have the Treg back. Charged a humungous $4,300 for the Turbo replacement of which VW "generously" paid 50%. So, it probably cost VW nothing and I paid what it would have cost me to buy the turbo and have it fitted. Am still in dialogue with VW.
Air Suspension: It wasn't the valve block or air line - looks like it is the front air shock @ $2800 of which VW will pay %50. Better than nothing. Still under discussion.

Total cost $3,500 for two parts which should not have failed at 80,000 km. Hope they are the last!

    Ouch!
I hope it's all good for some time after that.

    So do I.

One thing I am considering is switching where I have the car serviced. It is currently serviced by a huge multi-brand dealer in Sydney's far west near Penrith and I am not confident they have sufficient Touareg experience. I am wondering if I should be taking it to a specialist VW dealer. Any recommendations? Cheers. Geoff.

Try Camden GTI View Profile: Golf Loon - VWWatercooled Australia they're in the forum.
Also, if you have the sun roof make sure the rails are lubricated as they should.
