    toureg v6

hi everybody,i am about to purchase a new vehicle namely thetoureg v6 diesel 3.0 litre.now i have looked at a demo model which equates to about 80k on the road. now although i am a little hesitant 80 k may be stretching it a bit after spending that much do you think the dealer would throw in a tow bar or would that be too much to ask. now the next senario private sale what sort of problems if i purchase second hand .i am looking at 2007/8 for around 60k-10-20 clicks. would i still have factory warranty? hope you can help clear this up. paul

    Hello Paul,
first if you are going to drive a Touareg you need to spell it correctly ...its TOUAREG.

Now $80,000 is about right for a '09 demo model on road with delivery km's and around $2500 to $5000 less with more km's and earlier build plate (2008 or early 2009), that price should include a metallic colour which is about $1500 on top of the base price. Steel suspension without navigation is what you will be looking at. Now you could play around with your dealer and try a tow bar but they are around $1500 post factory so unless there is one already fitted the work involved to fit it is worth dollars to the service department.

2nd hand, good luck at this time, the new face lift model was released July 2007 so are now only upto 2 1/2 years old. You most likely not see many until later 2010 or early 2011 on the private market in great numbers. Low km's like you have said (10,000 to 20,000kms) will be hard unless you find someone who traded up. Some owners who purchased the first V6 TDIs have traded up to high spec models because they liked them so much. Your price of around $60,000 will see only pre face lift models.

The pre face lift models were released with the V6 TDI 3.0 engine late in 2006 and you may find some of these getting around...I have seen some on ebay....inside and driving there is not much change but the front head light and grill are different to the current models.

Factory warranty is 3 years or 100,000kms so if you are looking 2nd hand take that into account. There is an option to extend the VW warranty and you need to do this via a dealership prior to the original warranty expiring.

V6 petrol models I would stay away from as the V6 TDI eats them for breakfast in power and fuel savings.

    Happy hunting.

Don't forget VW give large discounts on their vehicles if you are member of any one of the hundreds of professional organisations in Australia. Whether its the Master Builders Association or you are an industry professional its worth joining.

For example as a business consultant I joined the Australian Institute of Management (AIM) and its cost me about $360. This got me a $4000 discount of the R36 I purchased. It would have been about $6000 for a Touareg. I know as I was deciding between the 2 models at the time. (About 6 months ago)

Given also the GOVT 50% rebate has finished there will be large deals to be had in the coming weeks from most VW. I was actually speaking to my dealer yesterday about a Golf and he suggested that it might be to my advantage to to hold off a week or 2 until the deals kick in!
