    Question Touareg alternate wheel/tyre sizes?

I own a 2013 Australian spec. 180kW Touareg diesel. The standard wheel size for this vehicle is 20-inch, and is fitted with Goodyear 275/45R20 110W tyres.

I was wondering whether the 18-inch wheels which seem to be fitted as standard to the 150kW model would fit my vehicle, as I'm interested in getting a spare set of these to give myself a higher profile tyre size, more suitable for off-road use.

In short, the 2 basic questions I have are:

    1) will the 18 inch wheels fit my vehicle?
    2) what odometer/speedo recalibration, if any, would be needed to allow for any difference in the rolling circumference of these different wheels?

Your tyre placard will state what size wheel/tyres can be fitted. From memory 255/55/18 are the standard fit.
    Re calibration won't be necessary.
Largest you can actually fit I believe are 265/60/18 or 255/65/18 depending if you want it foot print or side wall heavy.

Thanks for your reply Flipper Dog - not quite sure what you mean by the tyre 'placard'.
The 'standard' tyre on my Touareg 180 TDI is the size I mentioned (the original factory-fitted Goodyears are still on the vehicle) It has 20-inch rims fitted with 275/45R20 110W tyres.

I've seen the 18-inch rims around on other models (the 150kW model I think has them) - my question was . . . will they physically fit my vehicle . . . same stud pattern, direct replacement of the existing rims??

Your tyre diameter is 756 mm.

If you get the wheels to fit then, you will need 275/55/18 (760 mm, +1.70% difference) or 245/60/18 (751 mm, -1.74% difference).

Those two tyre sizes are most common. You can shop around, like I did to get 285/18 for my BM; but it's a bit of a slog.

Anything else is > +/- 2.34% off spec for rolling diameter and may interfere with your corner sensors.
