TDI V6 rear main seal - replacement cost?

I'm about to buy a 2012 Touareg 6cyl TDI that failed roadworthy for a rear main seal.

Does anyone have any ideas of the (no doubt horrendous) cost to have this replaced?

EDIT: I should add that I've factored in about $4K for this. Does that sound about right?

Hi and welcome. I doubt it would cost $4k, perhaps half that or thereabouts. 90% of the cost is labour to remove and replace the transmission/tailshaft etc to access the rear main seal. The rear main seal itself is likely to be $100 or so.

Would be a good idea to call around to some of the VW specialist mechanics in Melbourne and get an idea on price and also their desire to do that repair. It might be easier to find another car without this issue unless you are getting it for a great price.
