A step up to the Touareg

It's been a journey over seven years.
    First a 2.0 TDi Golf, then a 2.0 125kw Passat.
(the Golf is still with us)

Now it is a 2007 (built 2006) Touareg 3.0 TDi in the stable.

I began the research a little while ago, deciding the 3.0l diesel the number one choice for me.
To find one affordable was a challenge, then fell in love with the tan leather version in the dark silver.

Transporter here on the Forum helped me with information as well as the service manager at
Jacksons in Hobart our VW dealer.
The decision to purchase was made. Plans fell into place, a deal struck and I flew to NSW.
An uneventful and pleasant trip to Melbourne saw me beaming from ear to ear and when taking a break I could be found with my head in the owners manuals, trying to absorb as much information as possible.
Fuel consumption was an outstanding 9.0l/100k. Way to go!

On my arrival in Melbourne, new tyres were purchased, the old Kumhos were well past their best.
Once more, Miro (Transporter) helped with advice, on the Friday of the Australia Day long weekend.

The final leg of 280ks to home from Devonport saw the economy drop to 10.5l/100ks, but I'm thrilled.

This VW is the best yet for me and I look forward to the pleasure of ownership.
There's a little work to do, tidying up a few things, natural for a vehicle with 166,000ks.

Miro (Transporter), thanks for the support, invaluable.

    Cheers
    Richard

I'm glad you're happy with your Touareg and I could help. I'm sure you will enjoy it for many years to come.

Thanks. I'm really enjoying the drive. Best VW I've owned.

    Here's two interior shots.

The caramel interior drew me to choosing it of those for sale at the time.

Fitted with the RNS2 it's way outdated, though I can play music from my iPhone via the AUX outlet in the centre console glovebox. A little primitive by todays standards.
Any advice on reliable alternatives with built in BT gratefully received.

About to fit a new battery, the old one being dated 30th week of 2006. Prudence dictates a change, rather than wait for winter. Battery is huge.

    Cheers,
    Richard

    Well done Richard.

An upgrade to the RNS3 (I believe) is possible. It may require a CANBUS upgrade, but I am sure Miro could advise on that...or there appear to be worthwhile aftermarket non-OEM units equally capable.

Without discounting the excellent assistance you have already received via this forum....you would be more than welcome to make yourself known at Club Touareg - Volkswagen Touareg Owners Community and search the knowledge base there, and ask any questions you like. Being a world wide forum....there is a plethora of knowledge to tap into.

    Welcome to the Touareg family.

    Thanks Steve,
I've had a squizzy on Club Touareg and joined myTreg Forum. Update: joined ClubTouareg.
Not being a prolific poster, sometimes it's easier for me to look, rather than effectively participate.
Have gleaned more Touareg stuff from the two aforementioned than here, by virtue of the numbers of owners. Some of that information hasn't been accurate, however well meaning.

I'll look into the RNS3, though have to admit I'd rather spring for something with inbuilt Bluetooth, rather than another fiddly add-on.
Regarding some of the aftermarket offerings, have received advice to steer clear and unfortunately, even with the unit being offered by a member here on the forum, I can see he is about at the hair pulling point, despite his obvious good intent and good will.
Would love to support a Forum Vendor or Sponsor where I can, especially one who helps the community.
I do try to assist where I can.

    Cheers,
    Richard
