    New Member - Questions

    Hello All!

I have just joined the Forum today.

Have spent most of the morning reading through the posts.

I have had a V6TD Treg ordered since last December and it
should be ready to take delivery sometime this week.

Got a couple of questions for you guys if I may.

    1) I read that "some vehicles may have been fitted with un-hardend diff gears".
Would this have been rectified before the T2 08 build started?

    2) I'm told the Treg has an automatic progressively locking center differential (with manual override). Can you tell me if the Treg comes standard with an interior switch allowing the rear differential to be manually locked.

Many thanks in anticipation of your responses.

    Robert

Hello Robert and welcome to the forum.
Reference the unhardened differential gear wearing (39C6) if your vehicle was ordered in Dec than you will not need to worry as this was identified prior to then. It effected the early facelift (T2) Touaregs.

Reference the interior switch to lock the rear diff, you will not find that on a V6 TDI in Australia as we were never offered the rear diff option. There is a interior switch you can manually lock the centre diff.

I hope your Touareg is not far away for delivery, you should be very pleased with your choice. Most of us on this forum still smile every time we drive one.

We will expect you initial report on your thoughts of your vehicle and photos please.

    New Member - New Treg

    Hello Flipper Dog!

Thanks for the welcome, and answering my queries re the rear diff lock etc.

We take delivery of our Treg on Thursday at 2.00pm.

By what I have read, I know the Treg is going to be just great.

We will be towing a 2.75 tone caravan (after we have done a few klms of-course).

Will post some photos of the Treg in the near future along with our impression of the vehicle.

    Robert

    Hi Robert

I'm hoping my new TDV6 was on the same boat as yours. I think you will find it exceptional for towing. Look forward to hearing what you think. Cheers. Geoff

I'll be interested to see what you think of the Air Suspension.
I recently bought a TDv6, and was tempted by the additional ground clearance.

I was put off by the price (additional $10K).
The car broker claimed it would be reflected in the resale value.
I couldn't find one with Air to test drive.
Jeremy Clarkson from Top Gear said it created a feeling of sea sickness.

Look forward to a report once you have it.

    Hi David
It was a BIG decision to go for the air suspension but I wanted it for clearance for offroading and also for towing to keep the car level. Luckily my local dealer (Penrith, NSW) had a demo V6TDI with air suspension. Clarkson is correct for the "comfort" setting but if you dial up the "sport" setting it was great. I think "comfort" or "auto" would be better on very rough roads.
I'll let you know what I think when it arrives. Can't wait!!. Cheers. Geoff

Update: Its in Oz. Looks like I take delivery next week. Geoff

What sort of van will you be towing?
I have a V10 towing a Bushtracker (2.68t tare) - only issue is that it can be a painto unhitch when you take the weight off the tow ball with the jockey wheel and the suspension self levels before you actually unhitch.
Amazing how many people have siad "How does that little VDub tow that big van?"
    Great tow truck!

We are so happy with our new Treg.

Will be hooking up the van for the first time next week to see how she performs.
Taking it from the North Coats NSW to Sydney to have a Webasto
    Deisel Heater installed.

Ian, our van is a 24 foot Heritage. It weights just under 2.7 ton.
it has Simplicity independent suspension, 3 x 90 ltr water tanks and a solar
system with all the bits and pieces ( 330-watts ) with 2 large house batteries.

Ian, what tow mirrors do you have on the Treg?

I need to get suitable mirrors.

We are absolutely thrilled with our new Treg also.

For the last 10 years we have been towing a car on tandem trailer to race meetings with a fully loaded 4WD - 1990 Range Rover (4.6), 2001 X5 V8, 2005 Prado V6 and now with Rex (2008 V6TDI Touareg). The towed weight is approx 1.8 tonne.

The Touareg is far and away our best ever tow vehicle - effortless towing over hill and dale, works well with cruise control (unbelieveable how it stays in 6th gear), stable and superb braking. Last weekend we had three return trips to Oran Park, one with trailer, in our heavily laden Touareg - total distance approx 500km, economy 10.5 l/100km.

    Highly recommended.

Now looking forward to seeing how economical it is on outback trips (no trailer)..Cheers Geoff
