Hmm... $1179AUD to replace the brake pads

    Hi guys,

My first post here. Seems like this is a great community.

Well, the brake warning lamp of the Treg is on and my dealer checked the brakes, disc are fine but pads need to be changed. They quoted me the following:

    $550 for the front pads
    $360 for the rear pads
    + 2 hours of labour
= $1179 for the whole job.

It seems to be very expensive. They kindly explained that the brakes are attached to the sensors and new sensors are required. If I take it to someone else, make sure I use genuine pads with sensors etc. Does it normally cost that much to replace the pads only?

This is the first time I change brake pads for the Treg (done 32000KM) and any advice would be appreciated.

Oh, I live in Sydney and quoted from Artarmon. Don't mind traveling if I can get it done somewhere else cheaper ... sorry for the long post :-P

Defo call around and get a couple of quotes. both dealers and independents.

Brake pads shouldnt affect your warranty if they arent done by a dealer, same as tyres etc.

    Thanks guys

Anyone know where to get it done independently in Sydney? I guess dealers will be quoting similarly, but I will certainly try.

    That seems outrageous.

We do heaps of brakes on VWs and Audis and its never close to that much.

I use German branded OEM pads with the wear sensors and we ause VW trained staff and factory software.

Its an easy drive to us at Campbelltown and I can quote you and book you in if you call me with the VIN, and vehicle details so I can confirm the pad type and price.

And you weren't quoted for discs? Add another $500 each end to that.
Point to remember that a 2.5 ton Touareg with 330mm Brembro brakes is not a Golf at half that weight.
