IMO, if you're spending that kind of money, buy a new one rather than demo. That way you know the history... you should be the first one driving it. Well, almost the first one.![]()
I'm in the market to upgrade my 2012 Pajero.
The question I have is, has anyone weighed up the option of buying a new or demo MY14 at a reduced price? Or wait for a MY15 and possibly pay more (talking into account the lower Luxury Car Tax - LCT)?
Does anyone know if VW Aust has an excessive supply of MY14's around and are looking to move them quickly?
I guess I'll start answering my own question by starting a pro's and con's list.
MY14 Pro's
- Possibly cheaper
- Available now
- Ability to wheel and deal due to runout
MY14 Con's
- Older model
- May not look as good as a MY15
- May not be able to select the options/configuration you want
MY15 Pro's
- New Model
- Better looking
- Better Fuel Economy
- Nicer looking Daytime Runing Lights (yes this is important to me)
- Lower LCT due to better fuel economy.
MY15 Con's
- Wait until next year
- Transmission decoupling would be annoying (driven a Golf R in Eco mode, yuck!)
- Less discount because it's new and popular. (Just went through this with the wife buying her new Golf R)
So there it is, I'm hoping to pick up an ex-demo V6 TDI in Canyon Grey or White for around the $80k mark which would include Sunroof and Sports Interior pack as a minimum. Dynaudio would be good, but I don't think many were optioned with it.
Am I dreaming or do you think this is realistic?
Cheers, Aaron.

Maybe I'm too impatient and want one now, and won't wait for next years model... Haha!
I'm sure you'll be happy with the either one, but you maybe regret a bit that you didn't wait.
Haven't said that, we have the 2008 Treg2 in family and are happy with it. I haven't looked properly into the newer model yet. Because we still appreciate the better off road capabilities of the older model, even though our car didn't go much off road.
Good luck with the decision.![]()

I would wait, I like having the new model even if it is only a facelift
I thought the new model wont have sufficient fuel economy reduction to get the discounted tax rate (<7L/100) in which case that's one less reason to wait....
Gone: 2009 MkV GTI DSG United Grey; 2005 MkV Comfortline
Current Rides: 2020 Mk7.5 GTI Performance ; 2013 MY14 V6 Touareg 180TDI
Apparently they're looking at 6.6l/100km combined.
So tomorrow I pick up my MY14 V6TDI 180 Touareg in white with sports pack and panoramic sunroof.
I'm a bit excited!
Congratulations and enjoy.![]()
