I actually just measured it and the octavia is actually 1300 from armrest to armrest - did seem a little bizarre that it would be more than the passat

The Octavia wagon has a nice boot though.
The Tiguan is 1809mm wide (narrower than the Passat) but has 60mm more interior width?

I might mention that to them, I had just assumed it would be roughly the same width inside as a Golf. (MkVI is 1779 external width).

    Thanks for clearing that up...
I took quite a lot of time measuring varying vehicles in my quest to make sure the 3 baby seats fitted in the Passat.
In all tests, I too the "narrowest point - from side to side" this just made the test consistent between all cars.

I was still shocked when I found I could fit them in the Passat though.

3 x child seats across the back

hi guys, we have 3 seats in our Skoda superb wagon. I tried to fit the 3 kiddie seats in a new passat however they wouldnt fit. Prior to the skoda we bought a comodore international wagon (easily fit across) but hated the car so much I traded it after 4 months on the sKoda. The rear legroom is huge so the kids cant kick the rear of your seats but the downside is that its hard to reach them from the front to pass them something. We didnt want another SUV or larger 4WD due to their poor fuel consumption & the fact that they would be too big to fit in our garage.

Just thought I would share some details...

I now drive an 09/2011 Ford Mondeo Zetec EcoBoost.

I have 3 baby seats in the back with no problems.

Safe-n-Sound Maxi Rider AHR (forward), Safe-n-Sound Meridian AHR (forward/middle), Safe-n-Sound Maxi Rider AHR (forward). So yes it can be done!

As a heads up, I could not fit the above combinations in my previous VW passat 125TDI Highline Wagon or Honda Accord Euro Luxury. So the Mondeo trumps them there!!!

I also have the following in my (current model) Mitsubishi Lancer (work car); Safe-n-Sound Hi-Liner, Safe-n-Sound Compaq Deluxe (forward/middle) and Safe-n-Sound Compaq Deluxe (forward).
