Exclamation Golf VI will not come to Australia

Golf VI will not be marketed in Australia, Brazil and the US.

germancarblog.com — According to our source Volkswagen seems to have some technical problems with the next generation VW Golf, the VW Golf VI, and therefore can't reach the self-set ROI rate of 5%, currently at 3.4%. This means that Volkswagen would lose over 600 million Euro profit over the product lifetime thanks also to the weak dollar.

I have already sent an email to VGA Public Relations Manager John Dawe.

We should get a response tomorrow sometime.

My European friend said that Spiegel are more of a tabloid than a news source so hopefully its just gossip.

    Der Spiegel

The Spiegel is Germany's best and most intellectual magazine. It generally is very highly regarded and their research is of very high quality. I just read the original article in order to avoid the terrible translation of it and I reckon that this may very well be true. The Golf has brought massive financial losses in the German home market also as it has been too costly to develop/ produce. My feeling is that VW did not profit much on that car in Australia either, hence the decision. As some of you on here pointed out, VW probably will replace the car with a South American model. I wonder why this won’t affect New Zealand at all. It would be good to see some positive news in this regard, I agree. They may even continue selling the current model until a fully new Golf gets launched.

    I think its rubbish.....

VW developed (and rushed) the MK6 purely because the MK5 has proven to be too complicated and thus expensive to build. Their ROI on the MK5 is lower than on any previous generation.

They will as soon as possible roll out the MK6 (provided it meets their targets) and cease production of the MK5 to move to a more profitable and less complicated platform.

What I have heard from a friend in Uitenhage is that VW plans to consolidate all MK6 RHD build Golfs in a (East)German factory. This factory will then supply to all RHD markets around the world, including Australia.

Porsche has now also started hinting that they will build a Golf platform based hatch to compete head on with the BMW and Audi hot hatches.

Expect to see the MK6 in Australia before the end of 2009.....

i don't believe it. how could the brand survive without its most popular model. everything i've read about the mk6 involved cheapening the manufacturing costs. hasn't the scirrico been confirmed to come here? i thought it had been, had its basically a mk6

Yeah they can't do that. They would lose their portion of the market. And that would be very hard to acquire again once they tried to bring the golf back in.
