To their credit the guys at the local dealership knew all about it (you’ll be surprised how many dealers from other brands kid dumb about next years model) and sorted out the order for me.
I’m getting close to racking up 3000ks and so far I have no complaints. Not sure if twin charged golf owners noticed the same issue, but the engine was very tight to start with (I’ve previously had a new Subaru and I’d say the tsi is even more gruff and ‘on/off’ than the notorious boxer in its early life), but now its settled in quite nicely, with a noticeable improvement when I hit the 2000km mark. DSG seems to be a bit smoother than when I first got it, although that could just be me subconsciously adapting my driving style to suit it.
Fuel economy has improved considerably – going from mid 7s on the highway (initially) down to around 6l/100. Town is varying between 8 and 10. It seems to get better with every drive so stay tuned.
Haven’t timed the 0-100 but feels 8 secondish.
No reliability issues yet – a slight creak seems to come from the rear driver’s side door at highway speeds, but nothing else to report. Touch wood it stays that way!
Best thing with new radio set up mentioned in the previous post is that it now has a 3.5mm aux jack! I think you lose the 12v socket in the centre console though (I remember one being on the GT I also tested).
I bought it on the advice that the spec is exactly the same as the old fsi and apart from the aux jack / 12v socket (a pretty fair trade in my opinion!) I haven’t seen any other difference. If anyone gets hold of the spec prior to VW popping it on their website, pls post it up. I’d be curious to see what is on my own car!
Happy to answer any questions.
