VW Golf Wagon confirmed for Australia

    http://www.theage.com.au/drive/motor...0922-fz50.html

More practical version of Volkswagen's famous small car will go on sale locally in 2010, writes BARRY PARK.

A Golf wagon will join the hatchback range on sale in Australia.
Volkswagen Australia general manager Anke Koeckler said today the Golf Variant would be added to the Golf line-up early next year, competing with the only other premium imported wagon in the sector, the Peugeot 308 Touring.
Koeckler said the five-seat Golf Variant, as it is called in Germany, would be sold as the Golf Wagon once it arrives here in the first quarter of next year.
However, she said details about pricing and the engine mix for the line-up would be revealed closer to launch. The wagon would attract a premium of several thousand dollars over the hatchback, she said.
Peugeot's 308 Touring is priced from $31,590 for the version powered by a 1.6-litre turbocharged petrol engine, ranging up to $37,190 for a 2.0-litre turbo-diesel.
It attracts a $4500 premium over the 308 five-door hatchback, and has the interior flexibility to seat anywhere between two and seven people.
The current Golf five-door hatchback range starts at $25,990 for a 1.4-litre turbocharged petrol engine, while a 2.0-litre turbo-diesel engine starts from $33,190.
Koeckler said the Golf Wagon would offer a similar spread of engines to the hatchback line-up.
Volkswagen showed a Golf station-wagon at the Sydney motor show two years ago, gauging customer reactions to help it make a decision on whether to import the vehicle.
Koeckler said the company had since gained positive feedback from fleets which were looking for a premium, compact wagon, with their interest effectively sealing the decision to bring the car to Australia.
She said the company would also target the wagon at young families.

Not necessarily, a lot will depend on just how much VWA decide to charge for a GTI wagon (and at the moment, you would have to suspect it will be "too much").

It might be that the vRS wagon will steal sales from VW (I believe a few people have bought Octys in preference to a Passatt wagon). The vRS is also available with the 125Kw CR TDI engine, and that is an option that is unlikely to be offered by VW in a wagon.

Wish it was the Jetta wagon.. Given it's got the same chrome front, it would be more fitting.

But as I was reading somewhere the other night, if VW wants to beat Toyota and GM in the market, they need to; Lower their prices, shorten their waiting period, and something else which I can't remember!!

The Golf wagon is identical to the Jetta wagon, they just have diffirent names in diffirent markets.
    It is Golf in Europe
    Jetta in Brazil,America,and Canada
    Bora in Mexico,and
Vento in some South American counrties.

All made on the same line in Pueblo,Mexico.

Hold up though... I'm guessing the MY10 wagon will have the same face as the Mk6? In that case, it's better that they call it the Golf (without knowing that the Mk6 Jetta will look like).

I've seen a picture of it and IMO it is the most disproportioned car of all time. The Mk6 front looks a lot shorter and higher than the Mk5 and doesn't suit the length of the car.

I am not sure I agree...
Whilst the MK5 Jetta front looked good,I think the MK6 Golf front also looks good, kinda sporty,as opposed to upmarket.
