Volkswagen to abandon DSG for future light cars

Coming from manuals I don't mind the DSG that much in my gti. I find you have to drive it like a manual almost (ready for the green lights to avoid the lag, don't let it slip too much etc) but overall, it's ok. This is a my13.5 gti. In my partners my11 jetta 118, it's completly different. Maybe it's the less powerful engine/heavy car combo, or that it hasn't been invited in for it's recall fix yet, but it shudders and stutters a lot more, and tends to select 2nd more often which doesn't help. Guess we'll see after the recall if that changes...

Isn't' that the big flaw?

The main reason I purchased my '09 MK6 118TSI DSG was the cutting-edge techno of VW's. Odo is now 54K, APR stg #1
at 18K (323Nm). No issues re driveability post upgrade. The car has been driven in "manual" mode 99.9% of the time, meaning the reality is I use it as a clutchless manual. What could be more enjoyable? (paddles?) The car (incl. trans.)
has been problem free other than s'charger clutch replacement (noisy). Not even a rattle/squeak! My biggest complaint is the difficulty re achieving fast launches at dragstrips, etc., without "launch control". Am yet to have "Mechatronics" unit
replaced in response to VWA recall. Despite a new car in 2014, won't be parting with the GOLF !!!


N.B. Ryan R, have you driven the AMG A45?

Haven't test driven anything this year besides the 103TSI Mk7 when it first came out. I'll wait until the new S3 is out so that I can compare them all.
