A guy I work with is dead keen on the tiny toureag.
Ben - any dates on this one yet?
Have just read that the Tiguan will be arriving early to AU shores, including the off-road version. This is the one I'm interested in.
Hope they have them at the Melbourne Motor Show, the baby Touareg has a lot of appeal.
We will need a new category!
yep i know someone who's hanging out for one. bring on the new section although i guess its just a golf on stilts... it should have been called the golfreg or something.

[QUOTE=phaeton;123586]Welcome to VWwA Gerhard
Thanks phaeton
I would really like the V6 diesel Touareg, air susp, tow pack, power tailgate as my new wheels, but the entry price is a little high, especially as I like to go where the paint gets scratched.
Also, 99% of the time I'm alone in the car, and the Treg may be a little too big as well.
So the 2.0 diesel baby treg has quite a bit of appeal - I am wondering how well it would fare in the Vic High Country without low range.
Does anyone know if the off-road version has "crawler" gears 1st and 2nd, and then normal ratios for 3,4,5 & 6.
Anyway, I'll check it out at the MMS and mine might just be the first order
I've booked a 2.0 TFSI version. Apparently only due after June though. The ones for May will be the 1.4 and the base 2.0 TDI. the 2.0 turbos and the 125kw TDI only due later ....
GTI motor and 4-Motion. Going to be the quickest VW with suitable mods ....
Also supoosedly to be at the Brisbane Motorshow (as a peek preview) from today (1 - 10 Feb) I will post pictures over the weekend if it is there !

My guess is the VW designers will have carefully considered the competition, especially the landrover freelander2.
I understand the new freelander is considered to be one of the most capable softroaders, offroad. I'd expect the Tiguan to give the freelander a run for it's money. Most of the 4wding I've done in the high county was in low four. I reckon you might have to accept the limitations if you want to take this AWD anywhere adventurous.

They tested a bunch of Tigs in Africa, including some stuff described by the American journo as "steep", but whether that means steep as in the high country is debatable I will probably keep the Monterey for the low range 4WD stuff, it can become my "bush basher". There are some river crossings that are best done with a snorkel, and the Tig (or the Treg for that matter) probably won't ever be able to be fitted with one.
I am thinking the best engine for the trail version is probably the 125kw TDI coupled with the DSG box, and for the road version the GTi engine would have to be the favourite!
There will be an Aisin auto for a time, apparently.
As for the Freelander, well, - it has a poor reputation, the new model is not proven to be any better, LR has a poor reputation, and most of all - they aren't VDUBS. Just can't visualise myself in one.
[QUOTE=gerhard;123728]To go where the paint gets scratched, you could try a poverty-pack R5 Touareg, and use a car broker (eg www.carbroker.com.au) to find the best price he can. You wouldn't be disappointed!
I am going to wait for the verdict on the Tiguan in Oz off-road conditions as the clever electronics will be good in a lot of situations, but a treg in manual low 2nd is a pretty competent rock crawler...
