No R20T (Golf or Scirocco) racing here ........... GT24s only
Note Car #13 .... some crazy Australians racing a Toyota Corrolla .......:duh:
Number 44 are two aussies in a commodore
Bloody shorty (now even shorter) Grant Denyer in #29 in Porsce 997 RSR ........ :) lucky boy
Denyer's car came in 9th
AND ....
whatever that Scirocco #118 was (obviously not a GT24) it came in 15th overall beating the GT24s ....... any many more fancied cars .....
Was this the R20 Scirrocco that beat the racing specific ones ??????
How good is that 15th place ....
Doesn't say much for CAMS if their president takes a Corrolla to the Ring ...... should have taken a VW .....
Also, confirmed the Scirocco that came 15th overall was the R20 .... 1st in its class too .......
Unfortunatly according to VW australia we won't be getting the scirocco
Last year the top Scirocco was 11th at the hands of Jimmy Johansen. In 2007 he got a tweaked MkV GTI to 8th place outright. Same idea as the 'rocco - 300hp, DSG, FWD, consistency.
IMO the biggest giant-killing effort in recent years was Johannes Stuck going 5th outright in a BMW 120d. There were 141 finishers that year, and many cars that didn't make it to the end.
CAMS man Colin Osborne has a thing for Toyotas and has class wins in the Australian Production Car Championship (outright too on parity) Bathurst 24hr and Bathurst 12hr. The man can build a very reliable car and keep it quick, consistent, and off the walls... unlike half the V8 circus.
