Whist wait times are bad, there are at least a few people per week that post their price, and not a single one of them has even been charged RRP, let alone over RRP, so I'm not really sure what you're basing your comment on there.

Car magazine had a compare between the two (and an alfa that came dead last)

“You’ll buy the Renault because it’s a pure sports car that just happens to have a back seat and a boot, and if you’ve got a family they’ll hate every journey you inflict upon them. They’ll love the Golf, but then so will you, because it does everything including offering 90% of the Renault’s fun factor”

Basically, chose the one you want for what you need. They are both damn fine cars, just two different cars.

Even for the R I got a discount of around 9.5%, negotiated a fair whack more for a GTI but went for the R instead.

The GTI badge is accurate for the Golf, because that's exactly how it drives...

    ?

    Que?

Bit of a nonsensical statement. Would you mind expanding on it?

...if you're prepared to get in line and wait the waiting times, sure.

But it still blows my mind how people are ok with a wait of up to 6 months on a car :S

Tell me about. I was told there was a 10 month wait for a factory order for a Golf R. Yikes!

If you have access to more than one car it works out ok.

If I needed a car now it would be a different story, and I'd be in a seconhand S3 instead.

Corey will post a message shortly to say that if you aren't picky with vehicle specs then you can get a Golf R quite quickly....

Give it a rest mate. Constantly stirring the pot about extended delivery times due to how popular VW is right now just gets old and frustrates people...
Anyone who is intelligence/observant already knows this, as we had 5 available from Dermot just last week, and if Dermot got some, that means there is a very good chance that several of the other 80 odd VW dealers throughout the country also got some!

So lets just leave this topic and get back to the review in question.
