It doesnt cost any extra to make an interesting ad. VW Australia is just booooooorrrrrriiiinnnngggg, uuuuuuber conservative and lacking any real creativity.

The above ad would appeal to a very broad cross section of people both young and old. Its probably the slightly older people that understand the punch buggy reference even more than the younger generations.

Its not just in the US that VW is marketed as a fun, charismatic, intelligent brand.

A good example would be http://thefuntheory.com/

WROOONG - our nannies wearing cardigans would deem this advert to be unsafe and promoting violence.

Our simple and tender minds could not tolerate this sort of advertising without anarchy occurring!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

It does, creativity isn't cheap despite that most people might think its a given in advertising.

That describes most new VW owners doesn't it? Fits my understanding of the MKV owner archetype pretty well imo...

Im sure in true big company fashion they are paying squillions for the rubbish they are churning out at the minute.

Well I dont know if i should take offense at that or not?!

I think you will find that the percentage of sales of models with sporting intentions is actually reasonably high. How many GTIs, R32s, R36s do u see on the road every day? All these models are selling extremely well from what I can see and they seem to be selling to people in their mid 20-30s. I know most of my mkv owner friends are younger than I am. Obviously there are exceptions.

At the end of the day I dont have a problem with VW appealing to the average joe.. But hows about putting in a little bit of effort to bring the brand into the 21st century.
