    Petrol V Diesel

My Pacific TDI has done 3K klm's and the MFD is showing consumption of fuel is 6.3 / 100. With the current diesel prices would it be cheaper to run a petrol engine car?

i think thats a question for you to answer yourself..... find someone that drives the equivalent model petrol engined car and see how much fuel they use then do the maths...

to be honest, i'd be surprised if many petrol engined cars could get a lifetime average fuel consumption as low as that...

but, heres that basic equation: if your diesel gets lifetime average of 6.3l/100km and diesel is $1.80/l, then it costs you 6.3*1.8 = $11.34 per 100km.

if your petrol car uses 8.5l/100km and petrol is $1.55/l, then it costs $13.175 per 100km.. still more expensive...

your petrol car would need to be down to 11.34/8.5 = 7.316l/100km lifetime average fuel consumption to be competitive.... plus its worse for the environment, 'cso you're stil using more fuel.

6.3/100 must be from around town.
Wait till you get out on the Hwy.
My lifetime MFD is showing 4.8/100 after 8000k's 80% Fwy.
