    Nissan Xtrail 2.0L Diesel 4.75L/100km.

This is the article from the Nissan enews.

Nissan X-TRAIL Sips Less Than 5 Litres/100km Across The Breadth Of South Africa
Nissan South Africa achieved an average fuel consumption figure of under 5 litres/100km in a South African spec X-TRAIL Diesel, in a cross-country expedition which recently took place in South Africa.
To demonstrate the fuel efficiency of the diesel X-TRAIL, two teams in 2.0 litre diesel X-TRAILs travelled from opposite sides of the country and met in the middle of the longest east to west line in South Africa. A novice team and an expert team were chosen with the aim of demonstrating what can be achieved in real world circumstances.

One X-TRAIL travelled from the eastern starting point (Richard's Bay), and the second X-TRAIL set off from the western starting point (Alexander Bay) – both meeting in the middle of the country using under a single tank of fuel each.
The novice team set off from Richard's Bay in Kwa-Zulu Natal. Nissan South Africa's Media Relations Manager, Veralda Schmidt partnered with CAR journalist Kyle Kock. As the novice team they made good use of the X-TRAIL's air-conditioning and stopped occasionally for breaks and to enjoy the scenery.
The novice team travelled a distance of 951.5km in a time of 10hrs 32min, with an average speed of 90km/h. Despite using the air conditioning and stopping along the way they returned an average of 4.8 litres/100km. They used 46.3 litres of diesel along the way and concluded the journey with a range of 383km before the tank would be empty.
The expert team saw Wheels24 News Editor Hailey Philander partner with economy run stalwart Willie Nel. The pair aimed for the best possible fuel consumption figures, thus travelled without air conditioning and without stopping frequently along the way.
The expert team travelled 1,053km in 11hrs 34min, at an average speed of 93km/h. They used 48.9 litres during the journey and would have been able to travel an additional 345km before running out of diesel. They returned a fuel consumption figure of just 4.6 litres/100km.
"We are very pleased with the results both teams achieved," said Nissan South Africa X-TRAIL Product Manager Ross Garvie. "We wanted to demonstrate the incredible fuel consumption that the 2.0 dCi X-TRAIL is capable of, but more than that we wanted to show that these figures are attainable in real world circumstances. By covering the 2,000km journey at an average consumption rate of 4.75 litres/100km, we have proven that economy figures of 21km/litre of fuel are possible. This not only reaches our target of 1000km on a single tank of fuel – but shatters that mark by over 350km."
Both teams were monitored with a C-Track vehicle tracking system throughout the journey. The C-Track system returned valuable and accurate information including average speeds and distances covered over the course of the journey.
The X-TRAILs used for the journey were both powered by 2.0-litre turbocharged engines, offering the latest common rail direct injection technology and 4-valves per cylinder. With a manual transmission, these power-plants are capable of producing 127kW and offer a torque peak of 360Nm at a low 2000rpm.
The Nissan X-TRAIL Diesel range in Australia includes the TS and TL models and is available for a test drive at your local Nissan Dealer. For more information, visit www.nissan.com.au

Wow, how many camshafts do they use to operate all 64 valves in the entire engine??

I hope this engine and the latest X-Trail as a whole is a lot better than the last one. We've got an automatic, petrol one as a hire car for site work at the moment and all I can say is you wouldn't have a clue that there is a 2.5L engine under that bonnet with how ridiculously slow it is. The only real clue is how much petrol it drinks!
    Cheers,
    Trent
