Ok everyone please remember these are artistic views of the Automotiove Media and I stress are not Official Images.

    I'm confused by this paragraph:-

"Engine details have yet to be confirmed, but VW’s clever 1.4-litre TSI petrol powerplant will lead the way under the bonnet. This unit will come in a choice of 120bhp and 148bhp turbocharged guises, while a 168bhp version is equipped with a turbocharger and a supercharger."

Mmmmmm.....I thought TSI stood for both turbo and supercharger and as the 1.4 TSI engine is advertised here as 170 BHP does this mean TSI does not indicate both turbo and supercharger ?

And "The hot hatch GTI model will feature an even more powerful 2.0-litre TSI motor" Does this mean both turbo and supercharger or have VW changed their nomenclature? I also wonder if this ties in with the Jettas spotted here in Aust sporting TSI badges, perhaps some testing being done here?

    Cheers

    George
TSI badging will be both for Turbo and Turbo/Super Charged engines.

TSI will be the name for all 4 cylinder Petrol engines by VW.

Those renderings look bad IMO. The rear doors look so much more smaller than the front ones (RX8 without the coolness of rear opposite hinge doors), the rears look like the 1 series (not a bad thing, but I expected something new!) and the styling as a whole just looks very conservative. Hope the renderings aren't anywhere close to what the real thing will be.

They say GTi will have more power, which is good, bu what happens to R32s then? The diference between two cars is not much now (not so much the power, but everything else) what will happen if GTi becomes even closer to the R32? R32s need to become R36!
You say that like it's a bad thing.

Rear looks like a Beemer 1-series to me ... don't like it much. Maybe it'll be better in the metal.

Yet again, Dave's right. i think that there is some (possibly future) penalty in Europe for cars over a certain capacity, hence the need for smaller engines with TSI. Having said that, it would be interesting to see how the 2.0L fares with TSI, and how it compares, stats wise and driving wise, with the present car. Will it be smoother? Will it have as linear a torque curve? VW got it just right with the MarkV, so what have they found that needs improving, and how will they go about it, rather than just perform cost-cutting and facelifts.

One of the tax thresholds in Germany / EU is at 1.4L (ie. 1.4L is in lower group than say 1.5 of 2L). Hence the use and multitude of 1.4L engines from Europe (Polo, Golf, Corsa, Fiesta etc)

Thats ... I'm sorry that looks pretty bad. Lets just hope that the GTi's and the ARRR32's look a bit better.

I wouldn't buy that, I guess I'm skipping that generation and going for the mkVII, whatever the hell that would look like... better not look like a Toyota or something...
