    Brilliant footage.

The spectator safety is non-existent and they are quite stupid because of it.

I used to love watching Rally Australia around WA,. getting up at 4am and driving 200kms to watch the group A gods like like Colin MaCrae etc.

Unfortunately, the organisers got worse and worse when it came to safety to the point where it was no longer worth watching, we were so remote from the action, so I'd just stay at home and be closer to the action on the TV

Agreed, there was some great footage in there!! Hard to believe anyone in their right mind would even consider standing that close to any track really but now it seems OH&S has gone to extremes across the board...

I made it out to Mundaring a couple of times before Rally Oz wound up. It was also a great view from the Telstra Corp Box above the start/finish line at Gloucester Park hehe.

I'd still like to make the trip down south for one of the Bannister events etc for WA Rally, but we digress.

i remember at north Bannister stage, watching Colin mcCrae getting his WRX incredibly airborne coming down the big dipper and hitting the water at the bottom. i used to sit next to the water and get hosed all the time. unfortunately the "safety nannies" in their cardigans decided that somebody might get a cold from getting wet and was therefore considered far too dangerous and we all got moved back in following years. I stopped goingh soon after that.

I've been looking for a clip of that particular ColinMcCrae moment on Youtube, but cant find it

Stirling Moss once made a VERY good comment about F1 past and present. Mainly to do with safety etc. I can't remember the exact wording, but basically he said:

Formula one of today compared to Formula one of the past is like the difference between paying for a prostitute and flirting with a girl. In the end you still hopefully get what you want, but the danger is what makes it exciting.

LOL Preeny, was Stirling referring to the danger of catching something "undesirable"?
