Brand new Golf FSi - noisy engine!

    Hi there,

Really hoping someone can give me some advice.

Two months ago I bought a brand new 2.0L Golf FSi with only 20km on the clock from a VW dealer. It's a 6 speed automatic, petrol engine.

Since day one I noticed that it sounds very much like a diesel, but a loud one at that! It has a noticeable rumbling engine noise as I accelerate or as the engine changes gears. In the morning or going uphill, it feels very cumbersome and slow changing gears - the ticking/ engine rumbling noise is even louder then. Everyone who has been in the car, as driver or passenger has commented on it.

I took it into the dealership a couple of weeks later and they claimed not to be able to hear anything and that they'd checked it over and it was fine. They suggested I put a few more k's on the clock and see how I found it at 2000. It's now at 2300 and with no change.

I test drove as FSi earlier this year for the company I work for and had it for a week. I definitely would have noticed if it had sounded noisy or felt cumbersome like this - it didn't and on the basis of that, I bought the car!

I'm fairly sure that if I take it back to the dealership I am going to be fobbed off again. I am sure it cannot be right.

I was wondering if anyone has had any similar experiences with a new FSi or has any ideas of what I could ask the VW people to look at.

I would really appreciate anyone's advice

    Louise

    Welcome Louise

First of all the customer is always right

So take notes of when it happens eg early mornings going uphills etc.

Then try VW Service again, if no luck write a letter to service adviser, if no luck again goto another dealer.

    Good Luck

No idea about Golfs, but perhaps the Golf Mk5 section would be a more appropriate place to get help

Louise ,I have the identical combination in a Jetta, and am always amazed by how quiet it is.You can hardly hear the motor...it is VERY refined.
The engine is definatly the best part of the car,but transmition, safety, and luxury features all rate high.
