you know thats gotta be the dumbest regulation ever. It prevents manufacturers from specialising.

In the end we have a whole range of new cars on the market that nobody really wants and perhaps cant afford, and the manufacturer ends up taking away resources and compromises what he's good at.

If I want a fridge, I will buy it from Toyota, not from AM

You'll only be able to buy one of these if you buy the bigger brother of them. So in other words you need to buy the $300,000~ one to get the little one.

Also, the R&D cost and effect on the environment from producing these 'regulation meeters' has certainly got to work out worse than keeping a minimal range of fuel guzzlers.

On paper, AM's range looks bad because of the L/km each car produces. But delve deeper and it's in the production where the big effect is. Keep a lesser range and it would be OK.

Take the Prius for example. From the first bolt in production to the last spark in the motors life, they are more inefficient and harmful to the environment than an old V8 commodore. In addition to this, the batteries they carry have a 3 year life span (and cost thousands to replace). Batteries are 1,000 times more inefficient than electricity (production, waste, chemicals etc.).

this is the only point i disagree - this is not "green idiots" given authority - this is what happens when accountants and politicians are left to their own devices. i'm pretty sure that there arent enough people voting for greens for them to have any sway, yet.

    rediculous, really.

as mentioned earlier, AM will merely 'sell' one to everyone that orders a DB9 etc, just to keep their averages down.

Your typical DB9 owner will then throw the hatch on E-bay for $5, or use it to cart hay bales around the country getaway
