Was in the general section a while ago.
There was a lot of debate about whether or not it was a true comparison since less weight/less cylinders will always mean a quicker take off and thus a quicker acceleration, especially in the lower gears.
Also the Veyron has the traction control start.
Still good to see what $120k Australian will get you up to.
I think he over-capitalised.

I'd love to see an itemised list where the $120k went.
I think there's a mechanic out there who scored himself a new car or house deposit out of that work!

To be honest, if I had $120 to spend, I wouldn't be dumping it into a mk1 golf. There are cars out there that you could spend that total amount on (including car) and be even quicker IMO.
Pulsar GTI-R is a car that comes to mind that would be a good base..... light, wide, AWD, huge engine bay, strong running gear (not that it would stay stock). RB26 in it and you'd be going pretty damn fast.... at a fraction of the cost.

I'd love to see someone shoehorn an RB into a GTiR. There's enough trouble fitting an inline 4 in N-W config. GTiR also weighs about 400-500kg's more than a Mk1 in standard trim.
Better off working the SR20DET already in there, PPG gearset, strip it and go from there
