I take it the 1.9 TDI fitted to our cars is the PD engine?

Found this interesting document for the 1.9 TDI industrial engine. It is not a PD engine, but does have good descriptions of the various engine components, systems and design features probably carried over to later designs. (32 pages)
Also found a 1.9 TDI PD document.

this article is on the first of the direct injection diesels. This engine was fitted to some mk3s as a 1Z or AHZ engine code. Also found overseas in passats, audis and transporters.
The mk5s have either PD or CR engines i think.
Great find. Thanks for that.

TDI mk1 on the road!!
Easiest way to find out what engine is in your car is to decode the engine code on the data sticker (boot or service manual) and put it in here:
http://www.bitnet.ro/vw/enginecodes/
Otherwise, you can just decode the VIN on the same site but that's more typing.
It lists every car with the same engine code.
If you go the vehicle info section on the same site, you can find out every engine offered on a particular body model.
